I am not great like my alter ego. I will never become great and mighty like him/her." I cry myself to sleep to because we MDers know the difference between reality and fantasy, which is a blessing and a curse.

I don't think anyone can tell you that here...especially if you don't give a reason. If you don't know, then it is traumatic, but if you know how long it has been going on, then you probably at least suspect...in any case: you should seek professional help.
My guess is something went unacceptably wrong six years ago, you integrated it in your DDs and it makes you cry for an hour everytime. Remember, MDD isn't a cause of anything, it's a consequence.
