Avoidant personality disorder and maladaptive daydreaming, is there a connection between the two?

After reading about Avoidant Personality disorder earlier today, I am certain I have it, (I have Maladaptive daydreaming disorder aswell) I would be really interested to see if anyone else thinks that they may also have AVD, through speaking to others with MD it has become apparent that we all have an awkwardness about us that seems to be a side affect of MD (i have noticed that the longer i go without DDing the less awkward i feel), please read through the symptoms (see link below) and let me know if you feel that they describe you (i have found that they describe me perfectly)

would really appreciate some replies! :)

Signs and symptoms

People with avoidant personality disorder are preoccupied with their own shortcomings and form relationships with others only if they believe they will not be rejected. Loss and rejection are so painful that these individuals will choose to be lonely rather than risk trying to connect with others.

I relate to a lot of these, but I don't think it's a disorder.  Pretty sure stuff like low self-esteem, insecurity, and fear of rejection are common human tendencies.  Just depends on how extreme your case is, I suppose.

I was diagnosed with AVPD, Sometimes i think MD was a way my mind found to have some fun without interaction with people.

When i was younger my family always tried to protect me and don't expose me to the world, so i started to have fear of people and when i was a teenager i got social phobia.

I considered that MD might be a coping mechanism for people with AVPD, but as i mentioned, when i stop MDing for a few days all the symptoms of AVPD go away. I'm gonna go see my doctor next week, see what they have to say. i'm not too sure what to say them regarding MD because i'm not sure if my doctor will even have heard of maladaptive daydreaming :S  Yeah, my parent were the same when i was younger,  my mum still is now...like telling me that i shouldn't trust my friends because they will hurt me, i got pretty upset reading the symptoms and realised i have them all aswell! We need to get MD more recognised

Yes I think I have AVP and I also believe I have Body Dysmorphic Disorder, which may go hand-in-hand with the self loathing and low self esteem of AVP. I constantly compare myself to other women, never thinking Im pretty enough. Its probably the main reason Ive not been in a relationship for such a long time :(

I have social anxiety disorder, but I wasn't very forthcoming with my doctor at the time of my diagnosis (I didn't trust her at all) and my mom (who works with disorders)  and I both agree that my behavior is more in line with AVPD. I do think that part of my maladaptive daydreaming comes from AVPD. MD is like my security blanket that I use whenever I'm in a scary situation and need to "check out" so to speak. I don't really have any meaningful relationships, and I lack the courage and tact to make any, so I dream up my own friends and I have them instead.

Stopping my daydreaming doesn't ease the symptoms for me though. If anything, it just makes me painfully aware of how inept I am at communicating with other people.

It seems that it is the case. It seems that there are a lot of people, agreeing that can be a relationship.

I thought just the same time ago, Long before knew about MD.

What you said about go without DDing makes you stay less awkward is quite encouraging (I'd try it when I collect enough willpower to stay a while without daydreaming).

Great to find someone that reach the same conclusions.
