Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
I've been diagnosed with something that causes my daydreams so I've been trying to stay away since I don't have MD, but it's really hard because this was the only place where I could talk to people like me.
It just sucks. I hate my disorder, but it's the only thing that keeps me happy. It makes me so unhappy and prevents me from having meaningful relationships, but it gives me the most amazing imaginary life. I just hate it so much, but I can't let go of it.

Maladaptive daydreaming may not be a disorder on it's own. Everyone I've talked to on here with M.D. had some other underlying condition as well. For instance, some people had ADHD, some had bipolar, some had schizophrenia, or another condition that was not yet diagnosed. From my experiences, having another condition does not mean that you do not have Maladaptive Daydreaming, but having Malaptive Daydreaming may mean that you have another condition which is causing the M.D. It is still a unique phenomenon regardless, considering it may be a unique manifestation of another condition.
Thank you all so much. I've really been struggling lately and it really means so much to have a place where I can feel welcome.
Hear, hear. Daydreaming isn't necessarily confined to MD, and it is a whole separate matter itself. Even if I daydream so much, I could never post here if I wasn't at all inclined to. So, please, feel free to post away without any inhibitions, it's always good to know that we're all in the same boat and wanting to help each other out somehow. We're a community and if you feel it, you're already a part of us.
I agree with M Hunter!
Maybe you have this other disorder and MD. That's a possibility, too. Even if you don't have MD at all, though, you're still welcome.
You don't have to have MD to be here and participate. We're here to help you and support you, and if being here helps in any way, then I encourage you to stay and post. Though most people on here have diagnosed themselves with MD, some people join for other reasons. We have a respected researcher join, and a mom joined to help her child with MD. We even had someone join just because she was writing a book on MD and wanted to talk to people about it (openly, of course). That's fine. Please feel free to use this site if it helps in any way.
