i was on tumblr and i saw this post that said:

"maladaptive day dreaming my ass.....

Some people need to stop claiming to have this disease. Just because you can vividly imagine your characters talking to you, imagine their whole life, imagine places, and situations, it doesn’t mean that you are crazy and need to go to the psychiatrist. Bullshit.

It doesn’t matter if you are from a troubled family or a normal family. You DON’T have to be sick in the head to create things in your head. It’s ok. It’s perfectly fine to do so. No, you don’t have schizophrenia, multiple personalities disorder, or MALADAPTIVE DAYDREAMING. Don’t go around scaring your mothers, auto diagnosing yourself with mental illnesses. Leave the drama for the people that REALLY have these disorders.

If you are constantly thinking about these things, then you need to STFU, sit down, and f****** WRITE"

what do you think about this? i dont even know. i dont think he/she gets it.

Everyone has their own ideas. I would take it with a grain of salt. We will all decide what we will take on-board and what we'll disreguard...if it doesn't sit with you, forget about it. My question is though, why does it upset this person so much? They obviously have someone in mind when they're writing this.

What this person doesn't understand, is when it begins to affect your waking life, sleep, relationships, etc. THEN it's an issue.

There's people that don't have the time or ability to write it all down - like me, everything happens so fast,  it's hard to put it on paper.

I personally think this person was looking for something to rant about. No biggie.

That's exactly what I was thinking, too, when I first found out about MD. My daydreams brought so much joy into my life. How could they possibly be bad? But then I tried to stop daydreaming, and realized I couldn't...

Yeah I think that this person probably has a really serious mental illness or knows people that do, and is sensitive to the issue. I have seen stuff like this said all the time in regard to disorders like depression or others that people don't consider serious or can't understand. I wouldn't think anything of it. MD is something that is really difficult for people who don't have it to make sense of, because everyone daydreams, and if you haven't experienced it then I can see how it would just look like a bunch of people who daydream a lot. Don't let this get to you; you know what you are experiencing and what help you need; this person doesn't.

Sounds like one of those trolls you find in the comments on YouTube. Ignore them.

Ignore them. Everybody thinks they understand MD but the only people who know and understand it is us. In time I believe that more people will recognise this and understand it better.
