Survey. Gathering Info. on MD PLEASE PARTICIPATE IF U CAN

The reason why im doing this is because MD is very vague. There isn't much info. on it.I want to perhaps do a project on this for my psychology class. Please answer these questions. I apologize beforehand if this is too unprofessional as this is the first time ive done anything like this.

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

-If your still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

-What triggers your MD?

-What subjects are you profecient in? (Math, English, History...)

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

To answer my own questions...

I started when I was young. I cant really remember but i think i always had the tendency to daydream.

I'm a very quiet and awkward person. I think the reason why MD is so severe is because of this.

Im probably considered an outcast and a loner.

Im only in highschool but i have somewhat good grades.

Anything. From music to my surrounding ambiance...

Im good at English, History.

My mind wanders easily.

Very interesting summary, but was this primarily with Somer's patients, who did experience childhood trauma.  That would skew the findings.  I think many of us on here feel that it is more positive than negative, and I think Cynthia's study of 95(?) bears that out.  But those are my only concerns.  Otherwise very interesting, especially theories on etymology.

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

I very honestly cannot remember a time when I wasn't always daydreaming. Even in my oldest memories, I can recall things I daydreamed of around that age.

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

Extraordinarily passive, to the point that it irritates those around me. . At first I seem very serious, cold, and aloof. I've been described as eclectic, eccentric, arrogant, intelligent, and intimidating. I never go out of my way to socialize but don't have trouble handling it if necessary, though if given a choice, I would always opt out.

-If your still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

I am currently in college, I go to art school so everyone is weird. When I was in school, I spent years as a quiet, easy-target type nerd. At that time I suffered from extreme social anxiety. My issues were slowly overcome and I flourished my last two years by actively participating in art clubs, showcases and events. I had to speak for several of these publicly. People started to respect me for being "original" and looked to me for upcoming trends and even style inspiration. It was pretty cool but really strange being treated so nicely by people that used to make fun of me.

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

Yes. I got what I wanted from high school at least. Currently, because of starting college, I have to find a whole new set of goals. I've fallen into sort of a depressive funk because there's nothing specific I'm striving for at this point. It cripples me to not be desperately trying to achieve something.

-What triggers your MD?

Music is common. Anything else that I enjoy, really. Even good movies. I'll get inspired by the film and lapse into dreamland and I have to pause-restart a lot. Sometimes, with characters that I have based off of celebrities, anything involving them will trigger me.

-What subjects are you profecient in? (Math, English, History...)

English and history. I cannot do math to save my freaking life.

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

My mind wanders constantly, though I can always force myself to focus. Very recently I've been able to control my daydreaming to a functional enough level.

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

January 18th 2004 ( it was an episode of Alias that aired that night that started it)

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

I am outgoing within my group of friends, but reserved outside them. I can't make friends very well so the ones I had through high school were ones I made when I started daycare. If I make new ones, it's because my original friend has become friends with them, so I did as well. I've made one friend all by myself and even for her, our older siblings were friends. Within our group I am the loud talkative one, but I won't go to parties or downtown on the weekends.

-If your still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

In high school people only knew about me because I played sports. My school was quite small so the same people played all sports and everyone knew who they were. If it weren't for sports  I don't think anyone would know who I was.

In university, when I lived in residence it was the same. People only knew me because of sports. I am nowheres near what someone would describe as popular.

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

In some aspects, yes. I am successful in my schooling and sports, but there are some personal things I am not successful in.

-What triggers your MD?

Most of the time I am in a daydream. My main daydream is my ideal life. I am happy with what I am doing in school, so I can be in class or doing homework, but it's not me; it's my character-who, in a perfect world I would be. Probably 70-80% of the time in my head I am him not me. My friends are his friends, but some of his friends aren't mine. When I'm by myself I'm almost always being him.

-What subjects are you profecient in? (Math, English, History...)

Maths, Sciences, History, and Physical Ed.

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

Like I said above I'm almost always in character. My main character (right now) is doing the same thing in school as I am and, lucky for me, he has a wonderful boyfriend who keeps him, and therefore me on task. When my mind starts to wander I recognize it and make the characters my character is interacting with correct my behaviour.

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

I can't remember a time when I didn't daydream.

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

I'm self-conscious. Sometimes this makes it difficult to socialise, sometimes I can overcome awkwardness easily, but I still feel self-conscious.

-If your still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

I was quite well liked at school.

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

I'm a massive under achiever. There's so much I haven't got that I really ought to have by my age. This is largely due to MD and some associated issues I have.

-What triggers your MD?

Anything and everything, I think.

-What subjects are you profecient in? (Math, English, History...)

Up to 'O' level (age 16) I was exceptional at maths and physics, often coming top of the year. I'd also be right up there in languages. As I got older and common sense and intuition were not enough, I started to slip. Now, I find maths at the level I should be at to be intimidating.

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

Erm, ....what was the question? - I was miles away.

Hi there! Thanks for asking. Hope this helps:

-When did you first start experiencing MD? ...When I was about 12 I think. On holidays, I was bored and hated my parents fighting.

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life? ...No. Wish there was more to show in my years so far.

-What triggers your MD? ...Music, TV, Movies, lovely and kind people I meet, when life gets too difficult.

Not in school but when I was there, there really wasn't any of those kind of groups

Anything and everything.  It becomes sever though when I am stressed or tired

English, Computer studies

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

Yes I do find it hard to focus especially when I'm my own and I'm not focused on something externally that is interesting.

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

When I was very young. I've been daydreaming ever since I can remember, really.

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

That depends on who I'm around. With my family and close friends, I'm fairly outgoing. Around strangers and anyone that I don't know particularly well, I am very reserved and socially awkward.

-If you're still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

Most people just think I'm quiet and bookish. I'm generally well liked. Or at least, that's what I would like to believe.

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

No. I rarely exert effort to do anything to achieve success. I have big plans, though, if only I would set those plans in motion.

-What triggers your MD?

I think a better question would be, what doesn't trigger my MD? My main triggers are books, movies, music, and video games. Mainly video games and fan fiction.

-What subjects are you profecient in? (Math, English, History...)

English.

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

I find it hard to focus on anything, because I have ADHD. And I'm always slipping into a daydream when I don't mean to, although I can control my MD pretty well sometimes. So yes, my mind wanders and I can't focus on anything.

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

When i was around 10 years old

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

I guess it depends on who im with, but in a large crowd i am pretty reserved

-If your still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

well well liked by my friends. Not known by a lot but still on the radar

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

If i put my mind to something i can be successful, but overal id say no not particularly

-What triggers your MD?

-What subjects are you profecient in? (Math, English, History...)

English i guess because we get to write a lot. Any class i get to share my ideas

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

Y.E.S! Unless something reallly interests me i wont focus on it for more than a minute.

I hope i helped!

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

I've daydreamed as long as I can remember. But it didn't become extreme until around 5th grade.

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

I like being around people and going out and such, but i prefer small groups compared to large ones. Never very comfortable at parties.

-If your still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

I'm pretty much a nerd, but Im not a social outcast. Everyone talks to me and I could get invites to the parties if i wanted to go, but as i said i'd rather be at home. I study a lot, and im on the high honor roll.

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

Hmm still in high school (junior) so don't really know how to describe myself as successful. I do well in school, im generally happy with my life. MD has definitely damaged my social life, but like i said im still pretty happy.

-What triggers your MD?

Movies, books, tv shows, MUSIC trigger it, but even without those i need to do it every day to release and keep sane.

-What subjects are you profecient in? (Math, English, History...)

History, Biology, english and foreign languages are my best subjects. Math, chemistry and such are my worst.

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

My mind easily wanders, but I've found study music that helps me focus immensely when doing homework or studying. I can work for several hours without drifting off as long as there is good, focus music going on in the background.

- I always did it, but it didn't really come to my attention until I was seven.

- I like my alone time, but I'm very vocal about my opinions and am outgoing with close friends. However, social time tires me out and I've refused meeting with friends to stay home alone.

- I'm a huge nerd, I read way beyond my age group and usually like to get involved in school discussions.

- I'm 14, but in school I have a problem with procrastination and forgetfullness.

- Boredom, anxiety, music, books.

- History and english.

- Depends on whether I find whatever's happening to be interesting. If it's boring, you'll lose me in an instant.

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

7 yrs old I can still recall parts of those daydreams.

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

Intorverted.

-If your still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

When still in school I was a loner with 1 good friend.

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

Yes

-What triggers your MD?

I need to see a movie or read a book to get a plot but music can trigger the fantasy.

-What subjects are you proficient in? (Math, English, History...)

I scored better in English on my SATs but my career choice is analytical.

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

Very easily, especially when performing a repetitive task.

-When did you first start experiencing MD?

10-11 years old. I'm 23 almost 24 now.

-Describe your personality, are you  outgoing person or reserved?

I am a very reserved person. I am actually at a point personally that I cannot leave my apartment due to fear of other people.

-If your still in school what is your social status are you looked upon as a nerd or are you popular and well liked?

No longer in school. I dropped out early as I could out of dislike of other people and no interest in the academic studies provided.

-Do you describe yourself as successful in real life?

In a way, yes. I am still alive, not for lack of trying to end it all on more than one occasion. Other than that I have not attained what most people would consider successful.

-What triggers your MD?

There really no one trigger. I do it at least every night. I go to bed early just to have extra time in my dream realm. Though I suppose stress of being around other people can bring it on. When I take the bus and do not have my DS or a book I always resort to my dream realm as an escape of being surrounded by so many strangers.

-What subjects are you profecient in? (Math, English, History...)

English and Writing I absolutely love. I also played the flute very well in school. I particularly enjoy my studies of psychology as well.

-Do you find it hard to focus or does your mind easily wander?

Very, on both accounts. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was younger and have always had trouble concentrating on anything that pique my interest. I also have problems with disinterest. It seems these days that I can find something and fall in love with it but only for a few days.
