Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
Anybody else here daydream while listening to music? I think I have a different daydream for each of my favorite songs (and I have many), sometimes multiple.
Part of it is that I would love to competently play an instrument (like the uke), but I don't have the attention span or the time (or the coordination) to pull it off. Consequently, many folk songs feature me, in my head, lol.
Also, some songs remind me quite intensely of certain people. Or sometimes I daydream that I'm meeting that particular artist, in person.
And don't even get me started on Broadway showtunes...they're a dangerous distraction.
Anybody else here do that? I guess it's because I daydream the most when I'm on the bus, or walking around- and in either case, I generally have my ipod fired up.

I've always had a kind of soundtrack to my DDs. Sometimes I'lll listen to the same song over and over again to fuel a particular scenario.
'Have also always wanted to play an instrument, but just dont have what it takes. When I was a teenager I was often a musician in my DDs.
I use music as a soundtrack for my daydreams. Sometimes, I'll find scenes changing due to the melodies or lyrics I listen to. I sometimes play songs over and over as well, but I tend to change it up randomly or select songs that fit with what I'm dreaming about.
I did play violin for two years during junior high. Haven't really played in years, but every now and then I'll daydream about playing it again. I tend to crack up- and get embarrassed- when I do that, though, because I'll come out of the daydream with my arms in position for playing and my torso swaying to a mental tempo. I sometimes do that with piano music as well. I'd love to start playing an instrument again, at some point. It's awesome stress relief.
Hi Mira, welcome aboard! I listen to music when I'm intensley dding. I don't need music if I'm dding conversation while getting ready for work or doing dishes but for the times when all I'm doing is dding then there's music. Some songs are for specific scenarios and the lyrics are incorporated into dd. Sometimes I am totally tuning out the music and don't even realize what song is on. I often replay the same song as I'm replaying a scene over and over. I have everything from Barbara Streisand to Rob Zombie on my ipod so anything goes!
I definitely need music when I DD. I always have and it always has to be loud. It first started with classical when I was around 8 and then it just varies. I remember to constantly being yelled at by my mother to turn my music down. Thankfully, there are noise cancelling headphones that I can use now so I don't bother anyone :/ If I don't have access to music though sometimes I can have a brief DD to get the anxiety to go away by running some bath water. Not as good though.
Anyways, any time there is music (especially in car rides) I drift off.
I do this, like a few feature me since I once really wanted to be a musician. Those are actually the only daydreams I have that feature me at all, and I don't have them much any more since my musical tastes have shifted.
The day dreams are most visual and intense when listening to music. I rock back and forth furiously when I do this, too. Ugh. It really sucks because the urge to do it any time I'm listening to music is ridiculously strong, and I just recently got a roommate.
I do this all the time. Often, I'll just "borrow" my favorite book/TV characters and place them in a scene that would fit the music. For example, a sad fast song would be the main character knowingly going towards certain death to save the world/companions. I also use a lot of instrumental music for my more abstract daydreams.
I make sure to always get a lot of very different songs on my I-pod, so I have the perfect one if the need arises. xD
I almost always have music playing when I daydream, the only time I don't is if I am playing a videogame ( which seems to be also a quite easy way to reach my world ). Even when I was a toddler, I would love spending hours in the car listening to music so that I could daydream ( verses the average child who would need television or to get out and run around ). I am very passionate about music. I mainly listen to alternative rock and folk rock. Lately, though, I have developed a perculier obession with instrumental ( mainly solo piano ), videogame and anime theme tunes (like Utada Hikari's Sanctuary, Lilium from Elfem Lied, and Room of Angel from Silent Hill).
I always have these types of daydreams. When I listen to music, I imagine either visuals or a music video that fits the song that I'm listening to. Other times I will place my characters, or myself in a scenario that is based around the mood of a particular song. I also often daydream about myself singing a particular song in concert either by myself or as a part of a made up band.
