I was wondering this while on the bus earlier, i was off in my own little world as usual, and when I came near my stop my auto-pilot told me I had to get up, so I came out of my head and got off at my stop,  just then realising to myself I had daydreamed the whole journey away, and I thought, what did everyone else do on the bus, I mean they must be thinking about something - its so strange to think that they dont just daydream on the journey or in any other situation where you are doing nothing, im really curious, do they think about nothing or what?

any ideas on what they do guys? it must be quite boring, i guess this is one of the few positives of being an MDer, if not the only one.

Haha, well they certainly aren't zombies. They daydream too, just not excessively to the point that we do. They think about everything, like dating, school, drama, situation at home, family, hobbies, work, politics, religion, career goals, solving problems, and planning for the future. They even fantasize from time to time.

When I told my internet friend about MD, he said that he daydreams about driving in a car with all of his friends and dating this girl, but he doesn't have MD. And my brother sometimes daydreams about being a superhero, but he's mostly preoccupied with work, taking care of his family, and just living in the moment. It's not that non-MDers never escape into fantasy...it's just not as time-consuming, elaborate, or disruptive for them.

I admit though, it's hard to imagine not having MD. I remember when it wasn't always this bad, but I can only think about the real world for so long before I get bored and want to daydream about my characters. I also have a lot of free time, not many hobbies, or friends, so that fuels daydreaming even more.

I think about this ALL the time! Like when i have my headphones in IM daydreaming of course, but what are other people doing when listening to music? Focusing on the lyrics or the beat? Thinking about their problems or goals for the day? When people are staring off into space could THEY be daydreaming too?

Lemme think about before i had MD.. Im only 15 but i always had a "different" or creative mind so i guess i never really thought normally.

I am always wondering that too. I am paying more attention to my own "normal" thoughts after discovering this MD stuff so I guess normal thinkers aren't as strange as they seem. They must just think "I wonder what it would be like to be super famous" rather than actually make up a detailed story with complex characters to try out a famous life. Or they have to go see a movie for action or romance then just think about the movie while we can expand and elaborate the movie endlessly.

DZJX, I wonder that all the time. I think their minds wander from one subject to another. Sometimes, my mind does this instead of DDing, I will daydream. Yeah, I know it's the same thing, but, to me, DDing (when I think about it in my mind) is when I Maladaptive Daydream, and daydreaming, when I think about it in my mind, is when my mind decides it's time to think weird thoughts about everyday stuff. Then goes back to DDing. I think they sometimes daydream, but theirs isn't the same... 'theme' everytime, with characters that are all the same, I think non MDers tend to just imagine stuff like they're famous, a pop star, they live in a mansion, they have glamourous clothes, everyone loves them, what their life would be like if they won about £1billion. Or $1billion. Or whatever currency it is. XD.

The thing is, no matter how much we use our minds, we don't use that much of our brains anymore, so we can't do stuff like read minds because we have simply lost information on how to do it, because we only use a small percentage of our brains, if someone used 100% off their brain, they would be able to walk through walls, use telekinesis, control fire, air, earth, water, etc., read minds, basically what the DD me does. On a regular basis. Because I happen to like to be able to do stuff like that in my DDs. Lol.

I agree with what J Noland said about 'I wonder what it would be like to be famous.' versus complex, detailed characters, plot line, settings, etc. Non MDers do daydream (I have read books you know. Lol) but not as vividly as we do. I once read a book where a girl and some others are walking through the desert, they find gold and the girl imagines spending the gold on a new car, and being in the newspapers for finding the gold, stuff like that. So I think non MDers have simple daydreams. I feel sorry for them.

@Truthful, your post just reminded me.  My husband, who I always think of as the sanest person I know, jogs & what he calls meditates.  He has a similar theme - winning the lottery or something - and deciding what he would do with the money, mostly give it away to various deserving souls.  He daydreams this same scenario, which is very emotionally satisfying to him.  So in a sense, it serves some of the same purpose as our DD's.  But he remains himself, except rich, and everyone else is the same.  I think that is probably typical for non-MD'ers.
This is what I have always wondered. I suppose they converse with those around them or message their friends. I cannot imagine what it would be like in the mind of someone who is not constantly daydreaming.  What strange beings.
