Do most people here have the urge to exercise when daydreaming?

I've actually used this to my advantage somewhat. I'll set aside one or two hours a day to daydream, and when I daydream, I exercise. I'll walk really fast/run on the treadmill, do pushups, sit ups, lift weights. For some reason, daydreaming just makes me want to get up and go. Is this a healthy habit? Is this the same as pacing? If I didn't daydream, then I would never want to exercise.

This is really interesting actually because for me to get a clearer mental image of my DD's, I have to be listening to music and pace at the same time. It's quite difficult for me to daydream while I'm sitting down so I HAVE to pace back and forth. If I didn't daydream, I wouldn't want to exercise either. I think that's where all my energy comes from. I can't tell you how much I hate sitting for long periods of time.

Though when I'm exercising on my elliptical or doing my ab workout tape, I can't daydream. It usually happens right when I'm finished; I'm always obligated to daydream with my music after I've finished exercising.

Daydreaming doesn't make me want to exercise, but any monotonous activity like walking makes me want to daydream.  I don't pace or do any planned movement while I daydream.  I'm very clumsy when I daydream and would fall on my face if I tried to pace my tiny apartment.  It doesn't help that I have 2 cats that follow me around all the time.  I wish I exercised every time I daydreamed.  I'd be about 50 lbs lighter.  Lol.  I say as long as you're not daydreaming or exercising too much, go for it.  Remember that as fun as all this can be, we also have to be sure we keep it under control.  The fact that it's not a problem right now doesn't mean that it couldn't be.  Control it now, while you still have that option.  If you wait 'til it's out of control to start trying to manage it, you'll regret it.  Trust me.

Music also makes me want to exercise. I'm not sure if this counts as daydreaming, but whenever I listen to music I make up my own music video for the song in my head and that keeps me focused too. When you daydream while listening to music, do you focus on the actual lyrics and melody? Or is it just there tin the background?

 

I know this'll sound weird but I can only listen to 80's music when I daydream lol, otherwise I'd have to focus too much on the music.

Thank you so much. I'm still kind of in a confused state as to whether I really have this or not. I've had nothing to do for the past month and have been daydreaming constantly because it seemed like fun and kept me entertained. I'll usually watch a show I like on television, and then later when I'm laying in bed trying to go to sleep I'll daydream about the show I just watched and I'll alter the plot around more towards my liking. I've been daydreaming my whole life and honestly I never would've imagined that daydreams could be this disruptive to people. I'm not distracted by them in my social/academic life so I always thought it was okay to do. I can stop a daydream right as my brain starts one, so I guess I should only daydream at night then.

 

I told my mom yesterday about this website and she says that daydreaming a lot is normal. She then told me about how much she daydreams (which she does a lot). I can kind of see that now by recognizing all of the times she's spaced out on me XD Also, isn't it strange how a lot of people with MD do very well in school? I'm the type of person who does well in math and history and has little to no creativity. All of my daydreams are basically rehashed from stuff that I watched :S

I do the same thing depending on the song. I focus on the totality of it. That includes everything from the melody, lyrics and the tone or genre of the music. It's weird because like you, there are only some types of music I listen to that allow me to open my mind to daydreaming. I guess we're both weirdos! HAHA lol =P

I have like 700 songs on my ipod now no joke XD I keep getting bored with what I have and have to buy new songs. It's almost like new songs = new daydreams lol. I wonder what most people think about when they hear a song. It seems kind of weird that someone would not daydream or picture something in their mind when they hear something :S

I normally pace or lie in my bed when I daydream, so I don't always exercise. I do sometimes though.

At the moment I'm not pacing when I DD because I'm not well enough to pace at the moment :p

 

A bit off topic: Once when I was eating lunch at my school I was listening to some other people's conversations (if I'm not daydreaming, I'm eavesdropping XP) and some girls were talking about their weight and one girl said "If you sit up straight you lose like 20 lbs." lol. Sorry but I just had to say this when I read this:

When I DD I want to walk, laps which is good exercise. I listen to music while walking and I find myself walking for a longer time then I normally could. I get so into the DD that I don't get tired.
That's exactly what I do :) Normally I hate exercise, so I guess this could be a benefit of MD.

I convinced my mom to get a treadmill for me, so that whenever I feel the need to pace, I have the excuse of "working out", lol.

That is exactly how I am! Especially while in a car. When the car stops i have to pause my music or dialogue because i can't daydream while not moving at all. I always pace. It's good for when my mom and i go out on the weekends shopping or something because i can bring my ipod with me because we walk a lot. In my house i pace a lot when i'm home alone. In my room when anyone is home,not a fan though. I hate when people walk in on me, and i can't do it all of the time because you can hear footsteps from downstairs. I'll make an exuse to get up so i can daydream when i have my ipod on. XD Turn on a light,then go turn it off. Throw something away in the kitchen. I make the most of it! lol But usually with exercise i get soo wiped out and out of breath i can't find pleasure in daydreaming because i'm sweating up a storm. So i just walk. XDD


I don't know how you all pace when you daydream.  I would surely fall on my face.  I almost fall on my face daydreaming while walking around town.  I also have 2 kitties who like to follow me around, though, so daydreaming while pacing at home would be a recipe for disaster.
I often daydream while doing the dishes. Not really exercise, but still useful isn't it? Because it makes a bit of sound it doesn't bother me if I laugh or talk out loud during dreaming. I sometimes have the urge to run as well, but I always run outside so I have to be aware of my surroundings. I'd love my own treadmill, but my apartment is seriously too small for that! For now, I'll just stick to houskeeping :-)
