Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest

No, I didn't have any traumatic experiences. My earliest memories of daydreaming were in kindergarten, and maybe I did it before that and I just don't remember, but I didn't have any early childhood trauma to my knowledge.
I recently figured out that I fit the symptoms of a schizoid personality type (like Schizoid Personality Disorder except that I am functioning pretty well, so I don't think I have a disorder), which has changed my perspective on my daydreaming. Fantasy/daydreaming is a symptom of Schizoid, so I guess that is were my daydreaming came from. Of course, that is not to say that I don't have schizoid and MD, since MD doesn't have diagnostic criteria yet. Who knows? I guess it doesn't matter anyway; they're just labels.
Who's to say whether being schizoid caused me to daydream or if daydreaming made me schizoid. I think it is a moot point since both of them go back as far as I can remember. I think they are both simply ingrained in my personality, so there's no point asking which came first
Psychologically, I think I use it as a way of over compensation for my flaws. I truly believe that I'm ugly, unintelligent, not special ect. So since I was a little girl I've always been attracted to television shows or movies with these "special" characters and I would imagine myself as one of the characters or I would make up my own character and wonder what it would be like to be that awesome XD
I very used to being bored. Often I would go in to school 2 hours early before anyone else was there (because my mom had to go to work early in the morning and wouldn't let me walk to school). On the days where I wasn't using that time to do HW at the last minute, I was daydreaming. Just staring out at space and daydreaming either about something cool I saw on tv or I would daydream about the characters ect.
I don't think I have MD per se because even though I daydream a lot, I'm in control of when they appear and can focus on anything I choose to (studying, working).
Did you know that scientists have found evidence to suggest that schizophrenia can be linked to babies who were in the womb when their mothers got sick while they were pregnant?
They still haven't determined if this is due to the mother's immune system affecting the baby or the illness itself or even perhaps this simply caused stress to the child, which would actually constitute a trauma like situation from that perspective. So imagine schizophrenia being caused by a trauma to a fetus caused by a mom who got a cold when she was pregnant? Wow! It's all early findings yet, but interesting research still.
What causes MD, who can speculate? Whose to say a baby wasn't left crying in his crib too long and the babysitter was on the phone, thinking he was abandoned, he was 'traumatized' by it. The nurse could of dropped him on his head, the possibilities are endless. Who can remember what happened to them during their first year of life, lucky if you can remember the first 3 or 4 years but it still affects you. Only thing I know for sure is that there needs to be way more studies done before anyone could say anything definitive. With such limited resources out there, it's impossible to rule anything out.
I agree with you, Rhiannon. Who knows what constitutes a traumatic experience for a baby (or fetus even).
I don't recall anything traumatic and I have memories of daydreaming when I was 3 years old. Not sure it was the exact same thing as what I do now, but it seems like I've always made up elaborate stories. I always felt a bit lonely, but I've never been bullied and now I have a great group of friends and quite active social live. Perhaps it's boredom?
