My attempt to bridge DD with reality, baby steps

So these are the Cornish pasties I've just cooked today. I have never been to Cornwall, never eaten a Cornish pasty, nor have I ever tried to cook any sort of pie. However, many of my dd's have English characters (I'm American) and I ran into several news articles debating exactly what constitutes a proper "Cornish" pasty. So being a self repecting Brit loving MD person with a day off...I attempted to make them using a recipe found on the internet. No carrots! I haven't tried them yet. I don't know what they're supposed to taste like. They look good. Anyways, the important thing is is that I did something in real life rather than just dd'ing about it. Maybe I'll make a brisket next!

We haven't picked one yet.  I looked up the scotch eggs and they look divine.  Did you bake instead of fry them, for a little healthier option?

I don't know how to switch this whole blog to discussions.  There are probably others who would like to join, but don't even know we're here.  With the discussion forum, each time someone adds something, it goes to the front.  Or we can just do it with us 4, and then open it up later.

Which Saturday did we pick? What should we make? Will we be on the chat area of the site? Guess what I have in the oven for breakfast? Scotch eggs!

So you are the same time zone as Sasi.  Again, I'm available all day Sat. until 4 PM and then eve., and all day Sun., except for Steelers football game.  I'm thinking 2-4PM Sat. might work.  It would just be brunch for JeN.

Does any one know how to switch this over to discussion side?

Cordellia, where are you?  You are cordially invited.

I'm free most Saturdays all day. But on October 1st I'll be out of town so I can't do it that day. I think I'll be telling people that I'm in a historical cooking group too but that there isn't a website. I'll say it's more of a usenet type thing just in case someone wants to check it out. Should we make a post to invite people or do we somehow tranfer this to a post (I am not super internet literate, born in the 70's)?

I have ingredients for Scotch eggs, sounds like a great breakfast. I'm going to use a recipe that calls to bake them instead of fry them though.

Should we switch this over to the discussion side, so everyone can follow?  In thinking of logistics, I'm 5 hours behind Sasi, JeN is 3 hours behind me, Katherine, where are you?  Also who would have a hard time explaining?  I'm going to say it is a group (private) through my university (Northwestern) that is looking at different historical eras & cuisine (in case anyone wanted to get on board).  Also what times are not good?  I'm not available between 4-5:30 on Sat., but am good like betwee 2-4 P.M.  This would be brunch for JeN, late supper for Sasi.  I hope Cordellia could join us, also.  I don't know what time frame she is.

I'd love the recipe.

I also had never heard of Eton Mess, but looked it up and it looks grand.  Strawberries, cream & meringue.  Found a recipe, but couldn't copy link.

Oh I'm going to have to look up Eton Mess. I've heard of Eton the school...goodness the British are full of surprises! I don't think Americans have any actual foods that didn't start somewhere else.
