My attempt to bridge DD with reality, baby steps

So these are the Cornish pasties I've just cooked today. I have never been to Cornwall, never eaten a Cornish pasty, nor have I ever tried to cook any sort of pie. However, many of my dd's have English characters (I'm American) and I ran into several news articles debating exactly what constitutes a proper "Cornish" pasty. So being a self repecting Brit loving MD person with a day off...I attempted to make them using a recipe found on the internet. No carrots! I haven't tried them yet. I don't know what they're supposed to taste like. They look good. Anyways, the important thing is is that I did something in real life rather than just dd'ing about it. Maybe I'll make a brisket next!

Well, I can go with another day of week.  It would be evening in England.  I think what Cordellia was suggesting was to announce the event in event section, but to announce idea in discussion forum (JeN, do you want to do that?) so that others might join and to keep the discussion up front.  I'm good almost any time, but 5-6PM mon. - Fri. (2-3 on west coast & 10-11PM in Eng.) and 4-5:30 on Sat. (2-3:30 on w.c. & 9-10;30 in eng.) Maybe we could start with that.  Find any time we are all free and decide on meal from that.  What day is anyone free around 2PM EDT?  (11 on w.c. & 7 pm in Eng.)  Is that confusing enough?  I'm exhausted.

Count me in.I have slightly lost track of when this is happening as blog hard to follow.Pages seem out of order. Are we going for event or forum??

Roxanne-Renaisance festival sounds fantastic.I wish I could go with you,I love historical things but have never been to anything like that.

Historical cooking can be hit and miss but no reason we can't do "fusion" cooking.Modern with a historical twist or vice versa.I keep kosher but I'm sure I can work around that.My weekend tend to be filled with family stuff so I may not be able to do live chat etc but will do my very best to make it possible.

What about Cordellia's idea of also posting the invitation to the event under either a new blog or new discussion?

How about recipes from the renaissance?  I think they had potatoes from the New World by then, in case we wanted a roast chicken or tenderloin or whatever.   Although I'm still thinking brunch at 2-4 EDT, so we'd go from 11AM -7PM.  That could include those scotch eggs; how were they?  They sound great.  I also was looking up food from Middle Ages, and found it limited.  However, I was happy to see 3 of my favorites - lentils, chickpeas and almond milk.  I am making right now a soup of lentils, escarole, onions, carrots, garlic, olive oil & broth, topped with Italian seasonings, fresh lemon & feta.

I just looked at the events thing, looks perfect! I don't know what it will look like when an event is added; as long as people look at the home page they should see it. Sometimes I forget to look at the home page because I get here from email notifications when someone posts an update. I've never been so involved in posts and updates on a web site before. This is way more active than my facebook. And way more interesting :)

An event sounds exciting, I never noticed the events link but I never looked for it either. I wonder if there's been any other events. I am not a seasoned chatter but I know the basics and I'm pretty sure I can keep up.

I've been looking at recipes and the medieval ones are quite grim. Definitely glad I live in modern times! Does anyone have dietary restrictions? I'm going to do a search on traditional British food so it should include English, Scottish, Welsh, etc. I imagine Victorian era foods might have some good choices too. I keep forgetting all of the things I'm trying to search for. There's some yummy sounding Indian fry breads.

JeN, just talked with Cordellia in chat section.  She had some great ideas if I can remember them.  We can't switch this site to discussion, but we can start a new blog or discussion.  A discussion would keep any new posts up front.  Also she said we could have an event - check under the pictures under discussion forum, there's an event link.  And we could chat on line in chat section.

I just have to LOL at that roxanne! Most of my friends will probably think it's boring too! Sounds like fun times at those festivals! I have never been to any renaissance type festival but they look like they'd be something I'd enjoy. I'm looking forward to all of these cooking adventures which ever way we decide to do them. I don't even mind doing them on my own then posting my pics and stories. Cordellia probably doesn't have the time to read all of the posts, I guess we should message her directly. Should we decide on a time and day first and then invite others? I don't know if anyone else will want to join in but having even more time zones might make it impossible to agree on a time. Luckily I have no social calendar (I just knew that would come in handy one day!).

Of course, I love it.  We could have a smorgasbord of different eras & cuisines, or just do it at different times: 1 time England in Middle ages or Renaissance; Scotland of 1700's (my Outlander series), native Americans at any time.  It all sounds good to me.  Next week I'm going to a festival of early America, during French& Indian Was (1700's).  The following week is a festival where everyone is dressed like the English in Renaissance.  I was hoping to pick up some foods, shirt, cap, etc.  I have told 4 friends that I'm planning this through a college historical society.  I made up the college part because I thought everyone would want to join in.  Well, they all thought it sounded unappealing.  I realized how really unimaginative & boring, really, most of my friends are compared to you guys.  Just thinking a little outside the box seemed weird to them, wonderful to me.   Thank goodness for all of you.  Where ,do you think, is Cordellia?

roxanne- I just had a great idea! Why don't we add Native American foods to our list of choices?!

Yes, baking to avoid extra grease. They seemed to turn out just fine though. I couldn't find turkey sausage at the store I was in so I had to go with pork sausage which is really greasy on it's own. Definitely a hearty meal. I'm surprised they aren't a brunch item at restraunts here in the US.

Maybe a discussion to invite people would work better? Or a new blog post that is titled as an invitation to everyone? I'm not sure what the best way to do it may be. I'm open to which ever way makes sense to you.
