There are very few articles, if you look on wikipedia about compulsive fantasizers and maladaptive daydreaming you will find some links.

I've actually spoken to Dr. Eli Somer, the man who coined the term Maladaptive Daydreaming.

There are researchers doing work on maladaptive daydreaming. It's just not well publicized, and it sounds like it's not too popular among the psychology community.
