I'm curious if any other MDers ruminate. I started therapy for reasons other than MD. However, daydreaming has come up. It's become apparent to me that MD is a compulsive behavior that's closely…Continue

MD and Compulsive Behaviors?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Blair Mar 17, 2015. 7 Replies

Out of curiosity, does anyone have other compulsive behaviors when they aren't daydreaming? I know MDers pace or do other things when they are daydreaming.  I have two laughable compulsive behaviors…Continue

Do you have a trigger that's really frustrating?I personally enjoy my daydreaming habit. It's never caused me any major disruption, aside from the occasional zoning out and losing a little time. But…Continue

"Yes, in fact I ruminate all the time regardless of what I am doing, and today the dark thoughts got so bad that I started to cry. But I have realized that these thoughts are lies and products of my anxiety which is quite severe. Do not give them the…"

Ruminating

I'm curious if any other MDers ruminate. I started therapy for reasons other than MD. However, daydreaming has come up. It's become apparent to me that MD is a compulsive behavior that's closely linked to another, physical compulsive behavior that I do. These behaviors are triggered by periods of stress, so I MD most actively when I'm stressed out. For example, if I'm not stressed out and I am bored or I'm cleaning (MD triggers), I may not MD. Instead I end up ruminating. When I'm not actively…See More

Sasha Greenwood commented on Tanya's blog post suicidal thoughts.
"When I was younger, I suffered from depression (never diagnosed, but confirmed later by my current therapist), and I constantly thought of killing myself. It started when I was young with little fleeting thoughts. When I was on the second floor of a…"

"Boredom is a huge trigger for me! Everything you described is pretty much a trigger for me (chores are definitely a trigger). I tend to DD while driving as well, and it's super dangerous! When I first went to my therapist (thankfully she has…"

"31 DID does sound more serious. The current research (that I'm following anyway) has mentioned MD may be linked to a Dissociative or Obsessive Compulsive sub type."

"I've actually spoken to Dr. Eli Somer, the man who coined the term Maladaptive Daydreaming. You can check out his You Tube channel. He has a series (about 5 videos) dedicated to MD ->…"

"Ugh, almost everything seems to be a trigger. Walking, driving alone, going to the bathroom at work, doing mindless chores, listening to podcasts, watching TV/movies... seemingly anytime my conscious mind is passive or idle. Daydreaming while…"

Blair replied to Sasha Greenwood's discussion MD and Compulsive Behaviors?
"A few minor signs of it but nothing too serious, mostly to do with symmetry and numbers. If I touch something with my left hand I have to touch it with my right hand. I then touch it a second time and balance that out with the same side I started it…"

Insomnyac replied to Sasha Greenwood's discussion Annoying Triggers
"Yes, boredom is a strong trigger for MD. It's not a good idea to daydream while you are driving, because even though there is the feeling that you are in control, your reflexes are not as good as when you pay full attention. If for example you…"

Insomnyac replied to Sasha Greenwood's discussion MD and Compulsive Behaviors?
"I often touch parts of my face, but the majority of the people do it. However, for me it's a behavior that I do when I'm relatively bored, like I need to do something with my hands. "
