Do you consider maladaptive daydreaming a mental illness? Whenever I think of the word mental illness it's something I could never imagine myself having...it's such a strong word, kind of scary.

Maladaptive daydreaming isn't the same thing as having a piece of your brain melted by some disease. I've yet to see one person who had it without having other, more serious issues brewing under the hood. So far it seems to always manifest as a symptom, a consequence of something else buried deeper.

Maladaptive daydreaming is really my only fault, I don't think I have any other serious issues going on with me, maybe some anxiety but everyone experiences that.

I think it is for me. Many consider it an addiction. But in my case it happened suddenly, much like an illness.
