It's weird, but I can't see my reply to this discussion, so here it is again:

I don't think MD is caused by depression (or other issues that an antidepressant might fix) so an antidepressant might not help much. We don't even know what the cause is (hasn't been proven, as far as I know), we just have a list of possible causes and you shouldn't take meds if you don't know the actual cause of the "issue" (in this case maladaptive daydremaing)

I've taken prozac (fluoxetine), welbutrin, Sam-E, and paxil in the past (not at the same time) but they were prescribed for depression. I don't think my dding got any better on any of the meds I tried. Maybe it depends on what the root cause of the dding is.  There's a lady on the yahoo boards that posts about her success with fluoxetine and another med (sorry I can't remember what it's called) and she says it stops her urge to dd and rock to music. So it seems different things work for different people. Is your doctor willing to let you have a chance to try different meds to see which one might work for MD? I've never tried zoloft.

Update, I just checked the yahoo group and these are the meds the lady is taking: The medications prescribed are 300 mg. Gabapentin twice a day and 1/2 tablet Paroxetine HCL 20 mg. I cut and pasted the sentence she wrote about what she's taking so I wouldn't give you any wrong numbers about dosage. Her doc must have taken her off the fluoxetine because I remember she used to post about that working for her. Hope that helps.

Hey guys,

I'm taking 20mg. of cipralex (SSRI anti-depressant) and it seems to help somewhat with malaptive daydreaming although I still daydreaming too much. I was on 10mg before and now that I am on 20mg it seems to deffinately makes a difference.  Although I still daydream too much and will need to increase my dosage of the anti-deppresant. I find it takes 2-3 weeks to notice a difference and the 1st week is always filled with terrible side-effects that will eventually stop for the most part.

Although I know I have MD, I have also been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. It is possible that by treating by generalized anxiety, i daydream less because i daydreamed even more with anxiety problems, as that was my body's way of counter-acting the anxiety issues that I have. One way or another, the anti-depressants seem to be helping as I have no more anxiety problems and my daydreaming has decreased, although I still daydream too much as I also have MD.

I will increase my dose of the anti-depressant and get back to you guys on the results and/or start taking some natural health supplements that may help.

I totally agree. In fact I think my depression is sometimes a result of my md. Of course that's just a guess and there's no way of knowing if I'd suffer from depression if I never developed md. I'd call my md a compulsion, habit, coping strategy, avoidance technique, possible narcissism trait, but when I'm depressed my dds are depressed too. So it doesn't solve my depression.

Just came across an old Lexapro rx. I forgot I took that for a while. It helped with depression and anxiety for a while but ultimately made me a sleeping machine. It held me hostage in a way because I was just sleeping all the time but I wasn't motivated to do anything about it. I'd rather be able to "slap" myself into getting up and getting something accomplished. But when very depressed there is no snapping out of it...I know that all too well! It did NOT stop the dds though, for me anyways.

I agree. Very few people who identify as MD only have MD though. Most have at least one other issue or condition.  What people describe as MD and how they describe MD varies a lot.  So, it is possible that folks who are self diagnosing themselves with a condition that really has no set diagnostic criteria are talking about something else entirely, but calling it MD.

You make a good point Rashoman. It seems almost everybody with MD have some other kind of issues as well and at some

point in their life they realize that it's not just MD. How do we know MD is not just a unique manifestation of other conditions? And will get better if we treat that condition?

The reason I'm saying this is because in my case, taking anti-depressants for my anxiety issues has decreased my MD. I talked to another girl and she said taking meds for bipolar, means she cannot daydream at all. How could her daydreaming stop completely unless it has something to do with the bipolar? How could mine decrease with anxiety medication, unless it had something to do with my anxiety issues?

It almost seems like MD is a unique manifestation of other symptoms and is not the root cause of the problem. It may just be a manifestation of the problem but we cannot say for sure.

I would reccomened to anyone to figure out what else they suffer from besides MD and take medications or natural health

supplements to help with it. In many cases, that has helped reduce the MD or make it more manageable as it may just be a unique manifestation of other issues. But like I said, we cannot say for sure.

Thank you for your replies guys! Here is my answer:

First of all you have to read Muhammeds post about how he cured MD.

I used his method, he told me to start with Serdolect, but i couldnt buy it in the country that i was.

So first of all i have started with ARIPIPRAZOLE:

i had side effects i took it for month - it didnt help me.

Then i have started Seroquel - it didnt help me too, but side effects werent so strong.

I tried Resperidal - it HELPED ME 100%, i even felt movements in my head, effect i felt on a second day, i took it only for 4 days, but the side effects were so strong that i could sleep only 2 hours a day,  i felt somekind of liquid movements in the right part of my head.

except that i had an exam. So i had to stop it.

Now i talked to psychiatrist and she want me to take antidepressant, the name of it ill tell you guys later. If it wont help i'll try another anti-depressant until i found the best one. If it wont help ill try Serdolect.

Good Grief, Good Boy, Good luck with all that.

First: I don't have to read Muhammed's post about how he claimed to have cured his MD. I already have read it and really don't consider him to be a reliable and objective source of information.

Second: You and Muhammed are making assumptions about what other people are experiencing based on very little information. Zoloft is prescribed for depression and recurring negative thoughts. That is why some people who describe recurring negative thoughts as MD have success controlling their daydreams after taking Zoloft or by reducing the recurring negative thoughts, they feel their daydreams have been reduced.

It also makes sense that drugs for ADD or ADHD would benefit some people dealing with what they describe as MD. A big part of MD is difficulty concentrating when they want to.

What you describe doing is just experimenting with a lot of different drugs and hoping of find one that works for you. You and Muhammed, (you spelled it with med at the end, with the emphasis on med for medicine), have only theories and assumption about what others are experiencing and no true understanding of what the actual cause of what folks are calling MD may be.  That is fine. Perhaps your situation is more severe than mine and you are helpless without any medication. To a person who cannot function at all, I understand being desperate.  It is not an approach I care to take. I am able to function well enough to work on improving my life without the high risk associated with drugs such as Serdolect.

Actually, I've taken several antidepressants. I took Paxil and I found it helped TREMENDOUSLY with my daydreaming.. However after one year without daydreaming, I found I feel relatively empty and stopped taking it. It's now back but I need to take the antidepressant for social anxiety/depression however, I don't want to not have any daydreams. I don't know what to do now, lol.

Thank you for you answer. Yes, i have tried a lot of methods they didnt help me. I dont know what is MD and nobody knows.
