Longstanding daydreams and what happens when facts get in the way???

Hi Everyone,

I'm new on here anfter coming across this site after a google search.I really thourght I was the only person who had lived the last 30ish years running a parrallel daydream world.

In real life I am very happily married to a lovely man and have 2 great kids.I have a good job that I enjoy and plenty of friends. My "fantasy"world comes from a very disfunctional childhood and I realised it helped me cope and survive what happened.

I fantasise usually scenarios that involve a character from TV as my partner. There daydreams can get very involved and I do get emotionally attached. My problem comes when I find out things about their real lives e.g.they are married.I then feel devastated-as I would if it had actually happened in my real relationship. While my head knows that this is crazy I can't help the emotions. My latest fantasy life has become a bit too all consuming and for the first time ever has started to intrude on my life the last couple of months.Recently I found out that this actor was married and am now all over the place.

Does anyone else have a similar story? How do you manage it??

Roxanne-I'm so glad it helps.I know it helps me when I get stuck.

All of you on this site have helped me so much. You have such a wealth of suggestions, always offered with gentle kindness. Also your words often inspire me to look much deeper into myself to find better ways to handle this wonderful gift we have.

I've been doing well for a good while now.I still dd a bit too much for my liking.Still not got back to reading and have a stack of books building but otherwise lots of progress.

We actually did a lovely little trip to Tahiti last week-end, and I threw a nice quiet little surprise party for him yesterday.   The Beckham's were there, of course, and wouldn't you know it?  Vic & I had the same dress on.

Oh sorry I missed the party...was in London with my crush as we like to keep things low key just after the holidays ;)
Poor Posh must have had to fire her stylist for allowing her to show up in the same outfit!

Yes I can relate! I can relate to everyone here about famous actors and such. As a technical guy, I like to have a lot of sci-fi type fantasies, maybe about how something should be designed, and I always have to research and envision how some technologies would work.

Roxanne-You must be exhaused after all these birthday celebrations.I think a quiet little couple break could be just what you need now.Maybe somewhere like Paris where you can restock the wardrobe.

JeN-Feel free to pop in with your crush. My crush and I are enjoying the London sites before we head back to LA

Here we are all in London - should have scheduled a New Year's Event for us.  It sounds like it's pretty hard to catch all of us in the same place together, with our hectic romantic schedules.

(I have been chuckling all morning over responses.)

Guess who's birthday it is today?  I can't tell you how busy I've been with all these parties and shopping for birthday presents.  What's a girl to do?

Happy Birthday to the King! That is the picture that shows on my iPod when Kentucky Rain plays. Love that song. I'm going to download Suspicious Minds to help you celebrate his birthday. Are you at Graceland for the festivities?

No, but I am (actually, in fact) wearing my ELVIS LIVES button.  After all, his grave-site has his name spelled wrong - on Graceland grounds!  And if anyone could pull it off, it would have been Elvis.  BTW, I love both Suspicious Minds & Kentucky Rain.
