Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
I'm wondering, with all of you (well, most of you) what do you do in Daydreaming while listening to music? Because, with music playing, I either daydream, listen to the music (and sometimes "sing" it without sound) or kinda daydream this little thing I mentioned once, about me being in a foster home in Aussie and in a kinda crappy school, and I don't become friends with anyone, but I end up singing on stage in each assembly in a little costume with some dance-type moves.
So I'm wondering, with you people, do you full-on daydream, and pay no attention to the music (I don't do that very easily, especially if I know/want to figure out the lyrics) or do you do something like I do?

i kinda do that, sometimes i play songs and pretend my characters singing them at a competition or a gig. other times i play movie soundtrack/opera music and just walk around, back and forth, pretending. i usually do that when my character is making a sort of 'grand entrance' thing haha. it makes my daydream more dramatic. i don't think i could ever not pay attention to the music if i was listening to it whilst day-dreaming, though sometimes i prefer it without music so that my characters can hear eachother/talk xD
When I listen to music, my daydreams are in the form of music videos, movie trailers, and TV openings. It's as if my main story and characters are turned into a real series. And just like in real videos, the timing, special effects, and scene selections are important! This might be weird but I take my time to edit visuals, like daydreaming the same scenes over with different special effects. I also daydream my characters dancing and singing to music. I've matched their voices to real artists and stuff. xD
I constantly listen to music, literally whenever I can and, no joke, every single song on my ipod is related to my characters/daydreams. New songs I hear I will daydream my characters into (if that makes sense!) but songs seem to generally appeal more to me if my characters fit with them. Mostly because I dream my characters are performing to them at gigs, singing to them, dancing to them etc. Or sometimes I kind of make a series of clips of a character(s) that fits with a sad song in my head (like videos people make on youtube of the sad/dramatic bits of tv programmes)...Bit weird I know! :D
But if I am a bit more distracted or feeling sad I full on daydream to music, but I still think I pay attention to the music a bit because daydreaming can get a bit dark depending on the mood of the song, or if the songs more upbeat my daydreaming's less intense and more lighthearted events happen... :)
I can totally relate to this. Over the course of my life music has been the major trigger for me. I usually turn it on and pace while I dream. I also used to be a singer, so I sing A LOT. It becomes a part of the dream. I have playlists specifically for daydreaming. It's gotten to the point where I can't not dream if I turn on music when I'm home alone or in the car.
Most of the time I listen to electronic/chill type music. I always imagine I'm the one who made the song thats playing, and I'm playing a live show for a audience. Most of the time I envision a real life person I'm trying to impress in the crowd, so they will adore me a little. This is something I don't like doing, but something I absolutely have never been able to break for a long time. I feel like I'm missing out on the actual music because I'm too busy fantasizing about impressing somebody with it. If I'm listening to a trigger song while driving, I kind of zone out and don't even realize I'm almost home, which hasn't been a problem but it could be.

That's EXACTLY what I do! I even match their voices, too. Mostly I daydream to instrumental stuff though, like movie soundtracks. The fast-paced ones go quite well with action scenes, although it takes a while to perfect the timing. Dx
Honestly, though, it's gotten to the point where I can barely enjoy the music without daydreaming to it. I feel like I need to create my own meaning. Maybe that's why I like foreign and instrumental music so much - I can come up with any interpretation I want, without English lyrics to contradict the scenes I create.
