alright, im a new guy here, and yeah im a M-dreamer, age:17, i just found this site, and was really surprised to find out my day-dreaming habit has a name, and even more surprised that there were ppl out there with this habit, sooooo.... how long do you day-dream a day? my day-dreaming varies from time to time, right now, in my early teens, i used to day-dream hours everyday, sometimes entire weeks would be consumed either accidently/intentionally, i used to be a straight A student when i was little but in my early and mid-teens, i was dreaming non-stop! ANd my grades took a bit of a dive. Right now at 17, i managed to develop an "on-off" switch to my day-dreaming, but sometimes i tend to get out of control, and im takin better interests in my studies. '^-^

hi! :D I'm 18 and i daydream everyday constantly, even around my family quite often! it causes some problems in university cause i'll realize i haven't heard a word my prof has said for twenty minutes, and it's usually the important stuff that makes me zone out, oops! I find the main time i DON'T daydream is when I'm spending time with my really good friend or with my sister, both of them stimulate me enough socially that I don't auto-withdraw into my brain, ha-ha. Other than that it's pretty much all the time though :S good luck in school!

I can relate to the problems with studying. I'd get up and pace around and talk to myself for a few seconds, a minute, an hour, or however long I would let it go on, if something that I was studying inspired me or got me thinking. But with a little will-power I was able to reject the daydreams and focus on studying. Then I would go into daydreaming mode again and repeat the process of refocusing. It takes me so much longer to study for something than most people because if I'm by myself, I will always have to battle my daydreams. I focus better when I study in public places. Also, I can focus better in class if, and only if, I actively participate i.e. discussion, critique, answering question, asking questions, etc.

I daydream constantly. At school. Every class. Math, history, science, I have NO funtion what's so ever. I just sit back, arms crossed, and go to my little daydream world until the bell rings ending the 45 minute class period. Language Art tend to be a bit easier because I LOVE reading and that's usually all we do in class now. Reading caused by daydreams..nutrition (that's the stupid name we call recuss even though all the food there iss in the cafateria is not nutritious at all..) So any ways recuss and lunch I'm usualy just walking around real face because I cant pace in public so I walk around really fast. I don't eat lunch because ever since I started daydreaming (which was about a year ago) I don't eat much because it takes up precious daydreaming time. Computers is ok because iv learned to daydream while I'm on the computer thow I have an F in that class because my daydreaming isn't able to make me type with all fingures while not looking at them. I type with two fingers pretty fast though :D my elective journalism is ok becaues it in the computer lab and each computer had head phone so I'm really on youtube lisning to music and staring off into space thow it looks like I'm doing something. PE....well I have to do street hockey so I'm usualy just standing there staring off into space. That's my tipical school day. When I get home I go strait up to my room (screw my HW. I never do it and even if I did I wouldn't be able to do it becuz I hadn't been paying attention in school) and I lie on my bed and daydream till about 5:30 pm then I usually listen to music for about 2 hours daydreaming then ill read abit though I'm usual putting the book down every 5 minutes to daydream. Then I go to bed at 11 though I don't fall asleep till 2 or 3. Weekends I'm usually doing what I do after school. I can't sit threw a TV show or movie without having to pause it and pace. I do mumble stuff while I pace and tend to act out the daydreams. Sooo...ya I daydream WAY to much
Whoa...just realized how LONG that reply was...O_O

Is there any situation or type of action that you do where you can focus on reality? For me, I can focus my attention on single activities that require lots of attention... multi-tasking puts me more in daydreams though. But if I have one action to do that requires a lot of analysis and synthesis, I can focus whole-heartedly on that particular task... unless I get distracted. But it's manageable. But if I'm just existing or doing mundane things that don't require all my brain power than I end up in daydream land again.

I definitely DD more when I am multitasking. For me, it was definitely worse when I was younger (I'm almost 18 now.) But I do believe I have an on/off switch for it, and it tends to take over when I'm stressed, bored, or trying to get something done. I feel like if I don't DD, I'll go crazy, so if I get up and pace around and do it for like 20 minutes then I'll be fine. Do you guys ever feel like you HAVE to do it? Like its an addiction?

lol, i consider my life borin, so yeah i HAVE to do it, otherwise i get depressed.

Right now I'm only doing like an hour a day. I moved in with 3 roommates and as a general rule I DON'T DD when other people are in the house. Its too sketchy for me. I drive around a lot to DD instead of worrying about doing it in my room.  I hate this part of living with other people. I feel like I have all this built up energy from dailey triggers that I just have to supress. I can't even DD when I'm out walking my dog anymore because I moved to the city and even on trails there are people every where. I have to have music to do it, but then I won't hear them around me so I'll look weird if I jump as they try to walk past me. UGH. Curse you general location of my school!

I dream often, at least 2 hours everyday on school days (meaning full on with music and things, i do milder daydreams doing normal activities almost constantly), more on the weekends. I'm 16 and I have a pretty good balance between my dreams and my school. It's all about pacing yourself. Start your work earlier, i know that can be "nerdy" but if you start it early and do a little every day (this includes studying), you  normally will always have time to dream without it intereing with your school. Also, avoid tv or movies until your work due the next day is done. These, for me at least, tend to be "inspiring".
