Are you the type of daydreamer that needs to be sober, relaxed, and free from any angst in order to MD? Or are you able to MD even if you have taken drugs or alcohol, are in a bad mood, feeling anxious or upset? - basically anything that has your mind stimulated?

I have found that during the times that I really could enjoy the escape, my mood has often times prevented me from enjoying a much-needed daydream. If something has happened to me that has upset me, forget it. If I have had too much alcohol, same thing. It's as if I need peace in order to do it, even though during the most difficult times when I might require some escapism -- not being in the mindset prevents me from escaping.

Does this sound like you? Or can you MD through your moods or substance use?

I had never thought about this before, but I do think I most often daydream when my mind's at ease. Firstly, I'm a social drinker, and I don't MD when I'm around other people. As for anger or bad mood, I usually tend to focus more on my problem at hand. Buuut, I do MD when I take walks outside, and sometimes I go on walk to "avoid" my feelings somehow (I am angry at someone, I am stressed about duties pilling up, etc.) So when I think about it, I can MD in a bad mood, but I must be walking outside with music to "trigger" it. It also puts my current mood aside, kind of on pause. I don't live it through my MD, it's just postponed until I "get back" to my real life.

Funny how our brains work uh?
