Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
Been a member of wild minds a while but first post here. Shout out to Cordellia, this thing is a great idea.
I have some friggin embarrassing but interesting characters that drive my daydreaming, and I want hear your guys characters n stories too!
All these characters are the same look: (an early 20's, tan, dirty blonde, and green eyed male)
Character #1: So this character is an imaginary Trump's son..... The drive of the daydream is that he's a good person but everyone around him sorta judges him cuz his dad lmaooo, but he's "different" from his family... so the story lines are usually a "star-crossed lovers" type of thing. But yeah classic maladaptive daydream stuff involving romance and heroism (sometimes he goes up against his dad or his other family members on twitter)--- I mean this stuff is just gold when I see it in writing.
Character #2: This character is an imaginary Bill Gates son!... The drive of this daydream is basically that he just inherited a ridiculous amount of money and is trying to cope with the loss of a father-- mostly by acting out and buying very extravagant things like sport teams and stuff.
What I find drive these stories the most is the narrative of outside people -- like for the Bill Gates' son character I always think of news discussions, etc. saying "well, we've never seen someone this age have this sheer amount of wealth and power", as the reocurring motif here is probably wealth and power.
I'm financially well off and don't know why I daydream about these characters having wealth and power, but I think that's a classic MD thing. It's all about enhancing what you wish you had!
I will share much more stories... after I see some responses!

I find it interesting that you've dreamt up fictional family members of the President and founder of the Microsoft corporation. When I invent fictional stories, they usually involve myself with a pop band member, movie star or TV actor.
Characters that I'm imagining are members of this old band called the Monkees. Of course, two of the members are dead. Anyway, I've been having affairs with each of these members! I am sort of a groupy. I joke around with them on stage. I get very close to them. Sometimes, I watch them behind the curtains as they play. The Monkees are from the 60's, so I bring them back to life.
Wow a groupy for the monkees sounds way more fun haha. Wait, this is pretty cool. As someone who likes music I sometimes daydream about being on tour/playing show and even having a groupy who I get close to, etc, I totally forgot about all the music daydreams I have. It's especially powerful cuz music usually goes along as a soundtrack to MD.
So who was the affair between? Davy Jones and then who-- lolol

I wanted to share this really embarrassing incident. I have never been able to talk about this with anyone.
I have been daydreaming ever since I can remember. When I was a kid, my family just ignored it thinking that it must be some kind of a game or something. But as I grew up the thing only increased. While I try to do it when I am alone but still the family knows.
Once I had gone to the hospital with my mother and uncles. When my mother went inside, I walked out and started daydreaming in a place i thought was isolated but I did not know that my uncles could see me.
It was absolutely humiliating when my uncle said later - " done talking to your self?" and I wished the Earth would open up and swallow me. I was atleast 18 years old at that time.
Yeah, I embarrassed myself everyday, but my family is used to it. They can hear me talking all the time. My sister reminds me to shut the door.
I feel like crying if someone mentions it even a little bit.

People that do mind blowing daydreams all their life are usually brilliant or very smart. It's a shame so many ordinary people don't think so and relate it to madness.
I agree with the smart thing ( not bragging) but so much of my time goes away in daydreaming that I cannot sit for 15 min at any work. I like doing so many things but my concentration span is so short. I can barely write three lines I have to get up and daydream and then I forget whatever ideas I had in my mind.
I would love to hear how others manage to do whatever they want to do.
Yeah I also thought it may get better. but thankfully my parents did not tease about it. but it is so emabarssaing because when I daydream I pace and act and do expressions and it is audible to others

@Silver Swan and @Sakshi, I can totally relate, my parents basically teased me about it when I was little, but I would like twiddle pencils while I daydreamed lol. And yes it seems common that the daydreaming gets worse as we get older because it’s like a muscle that gets stronger over time, not realizing the consequences:( I thought it would just go away when I got older!
This actually worries me, but I used to paint, draw and print all the time. Now, I seldom ever do any artwork, and it's very lame. I went to Art College and wanted to take up their Drawing and Painting program. However, making money was a huge deal to my dad, because his parents were poor. He's now a successful architect. So he literally talked me out of continuing my art studies and take up something very practical. He suggested that I take up graphic design, all because it opens doors. Whatsoever, I forgot that you MUST be driven to be a graphic designer. It's a very hard and competitive field. So I took the graphics program anyway, got my degree, but didn't land any terrific roles. I finally got a job that lasted for a few years, but the projects weren't stimulating and professional looking, and they were very mediocre. I suddenly realized that my artwork got neglected for a long time, all for sitting down to do work that I didn't even love, all for the money. I'd spend hours in my computer office daydreaming as I did these underwhelming projects. When the weekends come, I wouldn't feel driven and active to do anything creative. I'd just want to get out on my bicycle and cycle for miles. My point is, you physically have to keep it up, or else you might lose it.
