It looks like they very recently redirected maladaptive daydreaming search on Wikipedia to this article https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy_prone_personality. How can that be? There was recently a separate page for MD and now it redirects to this. We don't hallucinate or have delusions.

It used to have a link. I don't know who did this or why

The page of maladaptive daydreaming was deleted, because at that time there is too little research to suggest enough reasons to the seperation of MD from other diagnosed mental illnesses. I am pretty sure I googled the page a few month  ago where wiki listed the reasons of deleting the page. While I am upset that MD no longer got its page, I remember that their reasons of deleting it are well explained, at least for me it is.

I wholehearted agree with your points. While some of the points listed in that page sounds like a neutral statement, imagining myself as a reader who knows nothing about MD, I would have developed a lot of misconception on MDers after reading it. Moreover, some of those points that you have also listed like "often have paranormal experiences and have intense religious experiences" and "bad parents" are even worse, I read it and is like "WTF are these??". The article simply mixed all disorders related to fantasy daydreaming, is like calling patients who have diabetes going to hosptial would "often have respiratory symptoms e.g coughing" because a major portion of people who go to hospital is actually having a common cold. IMO, removing MD directly from that section would definitely be more suitable.

I'm disgusted.  NO, we do not hallucinate. We know what we're doing.  That's why it's a complicated disorder. Anything that suggests hallucinations or psychotic behaviour (as it does in the first paragraph) is simply describing a completely different mental illness.

Even though it says we "may" have hallucinations, that is an altogether different diagnosis - such as schizophrenia. Also, it continues on to say we are likely to have paranormal experiences and have intense religious experiences. WRONG. First of all, as an atheist I resent this because as far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as a paranormal experience and I reject all religions.

It then goes on to say likely to have had bad parents. WRONG. Is there any crude analysis of what the percentage is of people with MD who admits to having "bad parents"? Likely indicates most of us.

This is so wrong. Can anyone with editing skills on Wikipedia change this, or contact Dr. Eli Somer to have his page reinstated? Near the bottom, "maladaptive daydreaming" doesn't even have a link within Wikipedia.

If there was any one capable and knowledgeable about writing a Wiki page, i would have been happy to help with writing the contents.

My main issue is that it redirects to this other mental illness that has nothing to do with us.

Ok understood. But why redirect to this other mental illness? People who want to do research on maladaptive daydreaming are now going to think that I possibly may have hallucinations or am possibly delusional

The wikipedia was poorly written and was insufficiently referenced and was therefore deleted by Wiki experts.

Dr. Somer, your information and all of your wonderful efforts researching MD were already on Wikipedia. Do you have any idea who might have submitted it before?
