Just want to know if anyone else out there has been contacted via their  regular e-mail, supposedly through this site, but when I checked the site for the name of the person trying to contact me I found no such person listed as a member.  Might just be a lurker - not unusual to visit the site  before deciding to join, but if that is the case, are non-members allowed access to our e-mail? I also checked to see if the comment had been left on my profile as the letter indicated, but I found no such message.

here is a copy of the letter, but in case it's legit,  I'm removing the person's name:

I don't want to seem overly suspicious or unfriendly, but I would prefer to be contacted through
the inbox on this site, as I have been a victim of computer viruses, attempted scams,
and identity theft in the past. I also have to wonder if this person really checked out my profile
and messages here - the message seems pretty general and honestly, as if the writer doesn't know
my age, marital status, etc. I might be mis-interrupting, but it seems a little like a proposition...um.
I hope I'm wrong, but Just in case - I'm VERY happily married - thankyou, flattered and all, but sorry,
no.

What you got there, Sandy D, is a spammer whose membership was deleted when Cordellia realized they were spamming folks. They didn't have access to your email at any time. They sent you a message on this site, you received an email notification. Cordellia immediately deleted the spammer's membership when she saw they were a spammer and all trace of them, including their original message to you, was deleted from the site.

Cordellia takes the feelings, privacy, rights, and security of every member of her site very seriously. I disagree with Cordellia about MD and other things, but I respect her for vigilantly watching out for her members.

You feel free to contact Cordellia if you have any concerns and she will take care of it. She is a good moderator.

Good to know! and thanks!

Thanks, Roger.

Thank you so much Cordellia!

FYI, I would not have found out about this spammer so quickly if a site member hadn't reported it.  Unfortunately, we do get spammers like this on occasion.  I wish I could prevent them, but all I can do is suspend them as soon as I find out.  If you ever get any more messages like this, please message me with the name of the person doing it.  I promise to get rid of them as soon as I find out.  If you don't, I'll probably see them at some point during the day, but it may not be as soon.  I'm sorry you have to go through this and appreciate your support and cooperation.

I just got spammed by a Clara Albert. It is pretty easy to see she has sent the same message to several people.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll take care of it.  Unfortunately, spammers happen, and I can't tell who they are until they do this.  It's annoying.

I am the ONLY admin.  This kind of spam happens periodically.  It is often the same kind of thing.  When you get it, just send me a message, letting me know who it is and what they are saying.  Then, I will take care of it.  They often come on and act very quickly.  I advise never responding to them.

I just want to keep this up in the forum list so that people who are being spammed are aware that this "please contact me outside this site" messages are spam.

Comenting here to bring it back to the top again, to warn all members. This time he's called "mr Frank". Please don't react to him.
