Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
I just started my freshman year of college. Anybody have any tips for surviving and managing workload despite daydreams?

I graduated from college last year. It was a huge struggle with my MD and other conditions, but I made it, and you can, too. First of all, I had to stop judging myself for inability to concentrate and for constantly interrupting my studies to daydream. It happens. Realize that it will probably take you more time than normal to get things done, and accept it. Also, talk to your professors. It's up to you if you want to talk to them about MD or not. I did, and mine were extremely supportive. I didn't tell everyone though. Sometimes, I just said that I have an extreme amount of trouble concentrating and needed more time to get things done. Almost every time I asked for help, I got it without even being asked for details or proof. The last year was the best. I don't think I ever turned in an assignment on time because I had so much trouble concentrating, but all my profs understood and said it was fine. Another thing that helped was taking my computer to class and taking notes of everything that was said. Good luck.
thanks

If possible you could do group studies or find a study buddy who could keep you on track with deadlines. Talk to your lecturers (if they seem amiable enough) to also keep you on track through reminders. Also try and lessen your workload or select easier papers (even if just one or two) so if you fall into daydreaming you have papers you can fall back on to pass through.Maybe you can take on a repetitive part-time job where the daydreaming can be channelled so your mind is exhausted enough to focus(if that's how your mind works)
I'm a freshman in college so I'm in the same boat as you. I definitely understand your struggles. One of the things that helps me is to study/work in an environment that isn't good for MDD. I personally need peace and quiet to daydream, so I'll do homework in my dorm's common room where there are always a lot of people. It's too loud and crazy for me to slip into it. I would figure out which environments aren't conducive to MDD, and try to spend as much time there as possible.
For not daydreaming in class, I still haven't figured that out. If I do, I will share my experiences with you. Good luck.
