I have been having this problem and was wondering if anyone can relate to it. It is very recent in my life, maybe 3 months tops.

I'm going to list the last four examples for context:

- Missed a flight because I never told the people driving me which airport to take me to. Even when I mapped directions to the airport I was supposed to be in, it didn't occur to tell them we were going the wrong way and the fact that the other airport showed in my map as being so much closer to where we were did not even faze me. It was not until I got to the wrong one that it all hit me.

-A few weeks later I am visiting friends. Same airport thing - I had it in my mind which one i had to fly out of, but every time they asked I got a weird feeling, same feeling kept me from double checking. Some kind of brain sabotage. Ended up on the wrong airport - nothing hit me until then.

-Not too long after that - and the 2nd worst offence - book flights. I had the time the flight left and its arrival on my mind. A two hour period. Was able to conceptually use the leaving time as the time I should be at the airport while simultaneously thinking of the arrival time. it worked perfect in my head!! No red flags until I was leaving my house and finally understood everything.

-That day I took a lot of time to think and booked a flight for Monday, the 11th of February. Today I find that the flight was booked for tomorrow, Friday, the 1st of February. I narrated purchasing the tickets and contacted several people. In my mind (and maybe reality if the airline screwed up) it was and IS the 11th.

Sorry for the long post. Is anyone else experiencing things like this??? Maybe with other types of dates or your brain tricking you?

The first 3 offenders were during times of high stress, when I couldn't get my day dreams in order.. But this last one... I honestly can't explain why this is still happening.

I'm not sure if you've been distracted by DDing. But it does happen to me as well. I made stupid (meaning easily avoidable for any non-MDer) mistakes while working. It is awkward and later on I just cannot believe I could do something like that. I also have a problem with concentration on department meetings and my boss' instructions, when I have a strong DD moment. Quite dangerous position if I want to keep my job in the future.

Yes, it's really though sometimes. I guess what goes on in our heads is sometimes better than what goes on elsewhere.

I have got several time this feeling of brain sabotage. If you ask yourself the real reason you do this you find there is noting with DD (although DD can prevent you to stop the sabotage on time).

So are you afraid to fly? I mean not panic afraid but just realy unconfortable with it.

I have a light form for claustrophobia. Room witout windows make me unconforatable but I will usually not think about it or reflect about why I am unconfortable. Some month ago I wondered why I needed so much time on the morning to go from my office to my lab. Then I thought about my lab beeing a blind room. But I stil had to work there, I was happy when I finished with this project.

What helps is do not ignore your feeling and do not juge them. Just know they are there but you are the one in charge. When part of you want to do somthing and part of you dont your brain will allway try to find a way out. So you have to take action and do not think it should not be like that. You may have to cope with those feelings all your life.

So what is wrong in checking your fly ten times, write a reminder and check ten times if the reminder has the write informations.

Dont think normal people are not doing that. Normal people do realy weir things.

Thank you! That is really good advice. I am not afraid of flying but I am always more comfortable when there are other people. And you are right, three of those flights involved life changing decisions that maybe I hadn't been as comfortable as I thought I would be. Maybe it's a combination of the two. Just re-checked my next flight as you suggested. Ahh this blog is a sanity-saver!
