Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
Continued from previous post
I started to practice yoga nidra, 2 years ago, in my initial days of practice
I still remember the day, after finishing my meditation and went to sleep , next day morning when I woke up I felt that my mind was completely empty, I was feeling so light headed as all my thoughts from has washed away ,never ever had this kind of feeling before, I felt like 1000 singing birds sitting in my brain have fled away, I got up from my bed while taking few steps ,I stood in front of a mirror, I saw a completely new face of mine, I felt like I am looking myself in mirror after a very long time, I just started gazing around, i felt thing differently, I saw things more detailed and focused, I started to feel that I was in sleep for long time and just wake up, something like a complete new world, with a bit confusion I got back to my daily routing, end of day when I was back home and i realized than it was my first day, I didn’t DD, and I also noticed, that even I didn’t bite my nails the whole day.
wow, this was my so called life changing day, now I was confident that yoga nidra is something which can help me with my ADD problem, I was so much relaxed and tranquillized that for a month or so, I didn’t even care to practice yoga nidra, but then as time went my mind started to roll back, but this time it didn’t bother me much as I was confident that my regular yoga nidra session will set the things back on track.
Now it’s been 2 years I have been practicing yoga nidra, it has helps me keeping a check over my DD's, if I practice yoga nidra once a week for 45 minutes, I am sure I will be able to get rid of my DDs habits, but then I love my DD's, I tried to go without DD's for a month, but then I realized that I am hyper active, and go super social, I hangout a lot, and I feel people don’t have time for me, I got bored soon, I started to eat a lot, so something not right again , so I decided to have a balance of both, by reducing frequency of meditation, I tried to achieve a state where I still DD, but this DD is very much controlled and productive, I DD about my business meeting, about my presentations, creative aspects and then I will make it sure that what I DD it happens in real life, so in short my DD's are more over practical dreams that it can full fill it in my real life, well sometime my minds tries to fanaticize but then within seconds my conscious mind alert me I am fanaticizing, I immediately starts to feel guilty, and I am left with no choice but to stop fanaticizing
I really cannot figure out relation between yoga nidra and DD ,Experts prescribe this meditation as to cure insomnia, anxiety, phobia, spiritual guys use this as a tool to calm there floating minds, some people do this mediation to boost their creativity , so its seems yoga nidra has wide variety of application in the world of Psychology, I think yoga nidra is similar to self-hypnosis, deep body relaxation, and suggestions that is what you need in yoga nidra meditation, it’s the most simplest meditation I have ever came across
in Yoga nidra there are 6 phases
phase 1 :relaxation of body, preparing your body for yoga nidra , it’s as simple as finding a quiet place in your house ,where you lay down I prefer a bit of darkness, lay down on your back, use a thin pillow to support your neck, spread your legs make sure they don’t touch each other, at least a 1 feet distance is recommended, spread your both hands a bit away from your body, facing your palms upwards and try to lose your body as much as you can, its same like you have no energy left in your whole body and your try to rest your body to recover it from all the physical pains,
phase 2: sending a strong message to your mind (suggestion)explain the purpose of this mediation, suggestion statement should be positive sentence, example "I want to relax, i want to stay in real world " avoid statement like "I want to quiet day dreaming" this way you introduce a check point into your mind which keeps a watch on your thoughts it makes sure they are practical thoughts not fantasy , at least this works for me
Phase 3: body parts awareness, it seems like making aware our mind of different parts of our body
Phase 4: visualization, this perfects your senses (example: you have imagine that your body is feeling cold, you’re feeling warm, your body is getting deeper inside the earth, your body is floating on air, this is the time where people try to visualize there phobia and learn how to deal with it)
Phase 5: repeat your Suggestion as in phase 2
Phase 6: step by step coming out from trance, and getting aware of your surrounding
Total time it takes approx. 30 minutes to 45 minutes
If anyone want to try , I suggest you to find a guided mediation script, which now as days are available online, some are for free and some needs a onetime fee, you can copy in your mobile or iPod and listen to it, and follow the instructions, later you can work on your own script, or record it for yourself

(note: in above post whatever I have written is my personal experience, yoga nidra worked for me, may be or may not work for you, everyone has a unique mind set, so try at your own risk, I suggest you to seek expert guidance, or reach out someone in your place, who conducts yoga nidra mediation, you can achieve fast results if your mediate with a GURU (spiritual teacher)
Comment
thank you I might try this out;)
Greyartist, phase 4 is different from Daydreaming, in this phase you are in a different state of mind (subconscious State) and you are reconstructing predefined scenarios/images suggested through scripts or your GURU , those scenarios might be different from your daily fantasy and it might be extremely difficult to reconstruct it,
I don't understand step 4, that part sounds like daydreaming in a way.
