So I told my parents about my Maladaptive Daydreaming, and...

It actually went okay! :-D Surprisingly, they believed me right away. I explained it to them and they understood (not at first, but I'm pretty sure they understand now). They said it's okay that I don't want to be cured yet and that I should set goals for myself such as paying more attention to people, etc. I didn't tell them about my friends knowing I have it, though. I'm really glad I told them. I feel so much better now. Thanks for all the support guys :-D

I showed them scientific articles and basically just explained what the disorder really was and why I believed I had it. They already knew I had an overactive imagination and an entire world, though--if you've been hiding your daydreaming very well for a really long time they'll probably be less likely to believe you. However, in your situation, @Rosethewolf, I probably would advise against telling your parents. If they threatened to "send you away" for a simple case of ADHD (yours could have been unusually severe or something, but it still doesn't call for "sending you away"), they would definitely "send you away" if you told them about your Maladaptive Daydreaming. Even if they didn't, they probably wouldn't be very supportive. (My parents are so attached to me they can hardly bear sending me to camp for 2 weeks, much less institutionalizing me for possibly the rest of my life! Your parents actually don't sound very nice at all...I'm not saying this is the case but it kind of sounds almost like they were trying to use your ADHD as an excuse to get rid of you...)

I am happy for you! I wish i could do the same.

I want to tell my parents too but some of may family members are supportive and one of them told me a couple of times when my ADHD was pretty bad that they wanted to send me away.

My daydreams are about fictional stuff. I am afraid if i tell them that they will try you send me away or discourage me even more.

How did you do it?

I cried while I was talking to them, and I cried afterward because I felt so relieved. My eyes actually really hurt now.
