Well....I have a habit of lying over almost everything(even the smallest of facts). Even though I'm not always successful in covering up my lies and usually end up spilling the beans myself with my words and getting caught and staying mum ultimately, I'm worried about my habit. Recently I read it has got a close link to personality disorders and becoming a criminal in future. Here are some facts about me:- 1) MALADAPTIVE DAYDREAMER with thoughts of having a POWERFUL and influential position along with being a sensitive, LOVED AND MOST TALKED ABOUT person(used to daydream since 5yrs of age only before going to bed. Started MALADAPTIVE DAYDREAMING WHEN I TURNED 10) 2) NO CHILDHOOD TRAUMA 3) I'M A VERY VERY VERY SENSITIVE PERSON. The thought of an embarrassing event that happened 7yrs ago still upsets me and makes me feel like a dumb person. 4) I've mentioned abt HAVING SYMPTOMS SIMILAR TO OCD. 5)I've had the habit of LYING OVER ALMOST EVERYTHING AND MANIPULATING SMALLEST OF THE FACTS SINCE CHILDHOOD(since whenever I can remember. I'm 19 now). 6) I tend to FEEL LOW AND CRY AFTER AN EXTREMELY JOYFUL TIME. HOWEVER I'M A STRICT FOLLOWER OF THE LAW AND NOT LIKELY TO CROSS MY LIMITS.

PLZ HELP! AND LET ME KNOW IF U SUSPECT A MENTAL DISORDER OTHER THAN MALADAPTIVE DAYDREAMING.

Hi Simran, depression, anxiety and other conditions sometimes go hand in hand with MD. You should meet a psychiatrist/therapist and explain your situation. I started meds and I am feeling much better. It could be a simple chemical imbalance in the brain that is making you do this. Thank god I met a doctor and for once spoke freely without holding back. I have been diagnosed with bipolar. I always thought that my MD was the reason for my depression. But turns out that I do it to deal with the depression!

You would greatly benefit from speaking to a professional. There could be an underlying reason for the lying and hypersensitivity that you're not aware of. Chances are that they've not heard of MD. In that case, tell them what it is and point them to this site.

I know it can feel too much when we MD excessively. But with the fresh insight, I assure you it is an addiction that can be cured by medication, willpower, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I am not fully cured and I relapse sometimes. But I am feeling much better. Keep hope. All the best.
