So, I know it's pretty typical for MDers to have music be a trigger for them, in fact it seems that the greater part of the majority is this way. Today I was listening to some good ol' tunes while daydreaming and it got me thinking about how the music is used. See, this is kind of embarrassing as I don't know how it triggers you guys but, for me, my characters usually are singing the songs themselves. Not like it's HighSchoolMusical Revised or anything, but most of them play in the band, or just chill on the couch practicing some of the more acoustic songs. It's a lot less dorky in my brain, I swear! Also, if I'm listening to classical songs, obviously they aren't singing/playing (with the exception of violin songs, as one of my girls is quite good at violin), and those songs provoide a more mood setting atmosphere. So just wondering, is music just a background filter for you guys, or is it a more active role as it is for me?

Sometimes my characters sing/play along, sometimes I have my characters listen to the song on the radio, sometimes the music is like a soundtrack. It just depends on what fits and what mood I'm in.

TRAGEDY: My ipod has fallen to its doom and broken a mere 8 hours ago.. time to try to get a replacement. UGH! The main issue is that all of my music is scattered on various computers that I have to hunt down, and I'm going music deprevation CRAZY.

WOW, its like I posted this. My ideal me is actually a violin prodigy (but all my characters are extremly talented when it comes to the arts). "We" play in a band and I'm always searching for new music so I can dd about them. So a lot of my music when dd is active. But, if I'm daydreaming there's an action scene like in a movie, then it's just background. Or if I turn my dd into a movie and set up flashbacks to the music (nerdy, ik ;D). I'd say 80% active, 20% background.

Haha I do all of those things!

I use "ambient" music (like Port Blue) to set scenes and character's moods, whereas more singing/instrumental stuff I imagine them singing/playing. Classical music can go either way, as background, or if it's mostly piano, I imagine my main character playing it and it expresses her emotions.

And LOL Laila, that is funny about nickelback. Yeah I choose singers that sound like how my characters should sound.

Oh and one more thing. Somehow, I even daydream to songs I hate, if they really fit. Like slow, sappy romance songs and stuff... I wouldn't listen to 'em if it weren't to set the mood for my characters dancing... xD And another example... I'm not a fan of Nickleback, but the guy's voice really fits one of my characters, so I listen anyway. Kinda weird, lol.
