Eye Contact

Does anyone find it incredibly difficult to maintain eye contact when talking to someone? When ever i have a conversation with someone i think i devote more effort in keeping eye contact than listening.

When I maintained contact, people said it was like I was looking straight into their souls, and it made them uncomfortable, so I started averting my eyes. It's not as bad as it used to be, but I still have a lot of trouble. If I'm with someone I feel really comfortable with, I can maintain eye contact for short periods of time, but that's not with many people.
