Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest

Well the reason I personally think I daydream is because I am not completely satisfied with the reality I have. In order to get back in touch with reality, you have to find happiness with it. If you are not comfortable or happy with something, of course you are not going to want to be around it. In this case, if you are not satisfied with your life, you are not going to want to live your life. Instead, you will turn to daydreaming. Find out what makes you unsatisfied with your reality, and find a way to fix it. Only then will you be able to enjoy the real world and not turn to dreaming. That's how I see it anyway. That's makes a lot of sense I will defiantly have to find thing to keep myself happy. Thanks for the advice

Totally agree with Ivy. I want to add that building a blissful reality takes time and effort, and you've gotta be willing to take a leap of faith and trust that the empty space you leap out into will be filled.

I understand what you are saying and I know you are right, but befor I started excessively dding I hit some new lows. And I'm terrified that I will go back after being sheltered by another reality for so long.

That's legit. It can be scary to face reality. Only you can make the choice.

I konw how you feel.
You enjoy your daydreams in the moment, but when you snap out of it you get upset with yourself. It's like a drug. makes you forget all the complications of life, but all it's really doing is holding you back.
My suggestions are give yourself a set time to daydream. It's not TERRIBLE to daydream, but anything that causes you problems in your real life needs to be controlled. So give yourself 30 minutes every night, set a timer, and be strong. As hard as it is, you DO have control of your mind, but it's hard to just up and retrain your brain.
Write a book or a song. The creativity that comes with MD is a wonderful thing, you could really make bank in the future if you learn how to channel your daydreams into stories! And don't be to hard on yourself if you relapse, because you will. And that's okay. You didn't ask for this, and the fact that you're trying to control it is great.
And tell someone. Anyone. Go to counseling. It really is helpful. Go to the doctor and get evaluated for things like ADD.
You don't have to cut out daydreaming, just make it to where it's not MALADAPTIVE. And be patient with yourself and give credit to yourself where credit is due. Good luck!!:)

It is ironic, I am currently in the worst I have ever been and yet I can't daydream longer than 3 mins at a time, if I get lucky enough to be triggered very good. I wish I could daydream again, it is a wonderful coping mechanism rather than the other kind of coping things you could do. So if I could daydream but still be in touch with reality and could lower it to 40 min or less a day of daydreaming, that would be great.
