Hello everyone,
I am new here and I've recently found out that my vivid imagination is actually MD. But I realised that I somehow experienced different types of daydream.

During the day I usually daydream while spinning and listening to music, I created some of the most detailed universes with different stories and characters and sometimes I go so specific that I know the background of every scenes and what all the characters are wearing. Up to now I've created 4 universe that I still use. I fell like this spinning daydream mostly help with my stress, but sometimes I do it just because I'm bored. I may be kinda addicted to it: if I'm home I would do every day and sometimes I can spend many hours just doing it (it really depends on the day though), on the other hand it doesn't prevent me from going outside or even go on holiday and spend several days without doing it, but after a while I would feel quite uneasy and stressed.

I also daydream just with music without spinning when I'm like walking or in the car, I usually use the same scenarios from the spinning one, but I'm not as relieved.

Then there is what I think is a different "kind" of daydream, which I use to fall asleep, and they are usually short stories and are usually about characters from different books, movies or tv shows (sort of like fan fiction). But as I said this kind of daydream actually helped me to fall asleep, so it doesn't really prevent me from doing anything and it is restricted to a few minutes at night.

Sometimes I also daydream while I'm studying for an exam if I really like the subject and/or a professor. In this case I would walk around my room creating an elaborate speech about the topic I'm studying, just as if I'm answering the professor's questions. So, this type of daydreamy actually helps me studying, but it rarely happens, and only if I'm really into the subject. Otherwise I would rather just spinning listening to music and thinking about anything else.

Are you experiencing the same? Do you have different "kinds" of daydreams and use a specific different way of daydreaming depending on the topic and on the situation?

I'm not maladaptive anymore, but I still have fantasies and of a different kind.

They had always been a variety of daydreams, anyway.

I think that now I got rid of the long stories, which were the ones that caused me addictions.

I have kept the vivid imagination, I imagine to speak in public before I have to, or I imagine comforting scenes before sleep.

I think my fantasies are like a library, I pick the proper book or magazine for each moment and at a certain point in my life I got rid of a heavy, useless old set of magazines I had subscribed to for many years but that doesn't suit my need any more.
