For those in therapy, what kind of therapist do you have??

This is my first post in a long time. Decided to go back into therapy for MD, as the daydreaming has been getting a little overwhelming...multiple emotional breakdowns in the past few months. My "intake" appointment with the psychologist went somewhat unexpectedly in that she has no idea where to send me. She says I don't have depression or anxiety, and they've never had anyone that she knows of with a case of maladaptive daydreaming.

Recent research out of Eli Somer's lab shows it may be linked to OCD. Is anyone getting treatment like that and found it helpful? I mentioned 'dissociation' as that is also cited as a clinical condition in Somer's work. Anyone have any luck finding a therapist that was actually able to treat them? What has your experience been in therapy? Stay strong my friends :).

My therapist simply said that it's just a mal - adaptive behaviour, as the name suggests, Maladaptive day Dreaming. She told that my brain has got used to it since day dreaming saves me from unnecessary stress. So it's kind of self created. You need to keep tab on yourself for that first. Before going for medication.

Hey. I started working with an OCD therapist and it has been really helpful. Though my ocd manifests in several ways including my daydreaming, the techniques are really good. I recommend it.
