Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
Here's the book: "overheard in a dream" by Torey Hayden.
Torey Hayden writes a lot of non-fiction. SHe's a child psychologist who has written books about all the messed up kiddies she worked with, and she's one of my faviourite authors.
But a couple of months ago i stumbled across a NOVEL that she wrote. It's about a psychiatrist trying to 'unlock' a supposedly autistic boy, and he works a lot with the little boy's mother.
What's interesting here is that the 'mother' character in the book has one of the best descriptions of MD that i've ever read. She began dreaming as a child, and would avoid socialising so she could daydream. She was never thought of as schitzophrenic and always knew that her dreams weren't real, and they were crazily complex. There's even a little discussion her 'triggers'!
When i read this novel, i was amazed that the author could describe this condition so accurately - made me wonder if she's got it herself, or if she's worked with adults who have it.
I would really recommed reading this book- i cried pretty much the whole way through - and found it really triggering - BUT it was fascinating!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone else has read this book pls let me know what you think...
