Here's the book:  "overheard in a dream" by Torey Hayden.

Torey Hayden writes a lot of non-fiction.  SHe's a child psychologist who has written books about all the messed up kiddies she worked with, and she's one of my faviourite authors.

But a couple of months ago i stumbled across a NOVEL that she wrote.  It's about a psychiatrist trying to 'unlock' a supposedly autistic boy, and he works a lot with the little boy's mother.

What's interesting here is that the 'mother' character in the book has one of the best descriptions of MD that i've ever read.  She began dreaming as a child, and would avoid socialising so she could daydream. She was never thought of as schitzophrenic and always knew that her dreams weren't real, and they were crazily complex. There's even a little discussion her 'triggers'!

When i read this novel, i was amazed that the author could describe this condition so accurately - made me wonder if she's got it herself, or if she's worked with adults who have it.

I would really recommed reading this book- i cried pretty much the whole way through - and found it really triggering - BUT it was fascinating!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone else has read this book pls let me know what you think...

I have never liked stuff that falls into the novel catagory but that book does sound tempting.  That last book I read that made me cry was about a ranch that saved abused horses,  I cried through the whole book and used up an entire box of kleenex.  I used to read tons of science fiction/fantasy.  Then I got bored with it and decided to write my own stuff.  So I do not read as much as I used to but when I come across something interesting I do.  I try to keep up with discoveries in life sciences (helps with alien characters).  That last fantasy series I read was about intelligent cats living in tribes can not think of the name, read all the books in the series currently out but strangely enough did not result in any cat storie of my own.  Never mind, I do keep up with general physcology articles.  Sorry, I appear to be rambling!

It's hard for me to get interested in reading things.  I'm glad you posted that for people to check out, though.

This indeed sounds amazing.  Will get it as soon as I can.  Read her blog and she also enjoyed MD, but unclear as to whether she still day dreams.  I wonder if Cordelia has read this or invited her to this site.
