Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
The following was emailed to me from Jayne Bigelsen:
NEW STUDY ON MALADAPTIVE DAYDREAMING
Researchers from Fordham University (Jayne Bigelsen, Jonathan
Lehrfeld) and the University of Haifa (Eli Somer, who coined the term
Maladaptive Daydreaming (MD)) have joined forces to launch a new study on MD. We are now ready to begin data collection!
This will be the largest study on MD to date. Our goals include
creating a screening tool to identify MD and more fully understanding
how it differs from more typical daydreaming. We will also be
comparing and contrasting it to other mental health issues. The ultimate goals are to raise awareness by mental health providers of MD and generate future study, which can hopefully lead to eventual treatment.
But we need your help!!! First and foremost, please complete the
following survey (link below). We expect that it will take between 30
and 60 minutes.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/daydreaming
But as importantly, we need your help in recruiting control
participants WHO DO NOT HAVE MD. (This is going to be difficult to do
as people without MD will be less motivated to fill out a lengthy
survey on a topic not relevant to them, and at the moment we do not
yet have any funding to pay them to fill it out)...So for those of you
who have told friends and family about MD (and I know many people
have not), please ask as many of them as possible to fill it out.
Thank you!

YES! FINALLY another research!
Just took it. Let's hope something interesting comes out of it. Anyways, the only thing that surprised me was no mentions of importance of music.
That's great, Rachel! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sometimes it can feel good to let it all out.
Thank you, Cordellia! I just took it and I found that my fear was sensless. I had never taken anything like this before but I found it actually pretty fun!!! =D Wish it was longer xD
Rachel, I just confirmed with Jayne. She said it can be completely anonymous, and you only have to put in your email address if you WANT to be contacted later. People are given a number, and that's how they're referred to.
Cool, Angie! I'm sure Jayne will be thrilled. I knew you guys would come through. :)
Got you at 10 "control people" without MD for the survey^.^ Posted it up on my facebook and told them it was for a psych/philosophy class. =D
Sure, you can, Rachel. It can be anonymous.
If I don't want them to contact me for any reason afterwards, can I still take this? I'm sorry but I'm fourteen and my parents don't know and...yeah.
Completed last night. :-)
I've asked a few people to either do it or signal boost, so hopefully it'll get more people to take it. Maybe.
And I'm taking it now.
