Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
So I have not been to the doctors in ten years, not since my teens. I never went because I never got sick. Plus, I didn't have insurance once I left my family's plan. Anyway, I got a physical today and I mentioned how my memory recall has progressively become worst over the years. The Doc asked me a bunch of questions. She was a bit puzzled. Other than my MD' ing I'm healthy mentally(not depressed or suicidal or anxious) and physically fit.
Now, I think I've said in one of the forums or on someone's post that I think MD has alot to do with my memory problems. It's not just short and lonterm memory recall either. You know that feeling you get when you first wake up before you can fully wake up and have a cup of coffee....that hazy feeling? Well I feel like that most of the time, even when I'm not DDing.
The doctor took some blood work. Once they've made sure its not due to anemia or something. She's going to recomend a neurologist to do some scans, because she said someone my age (25) should not be having these issues. Especially since I don't take medication that could be effecting my memory.
Anyway, if I go see a neurologist. I'll be sure to tell you all what the scans show and if it could be MD related or something else.

I've had a sneaking suspicion over the years that the reason my memory had become so bad was due to my daydreaming. I used to have a pretty good memory when I was younger, but over the years it's deteriorated to the point where I would read a book and then forget what the book was about. I reached a point where I stopped reading because what was the point? It's better now but then again, I've tried to stop all this crazy fantasy world tripping although I still imbibe on occasion. Please keep us informed. It would be interesting to hear what your doctor says.
It's really strange. I remember having a decent memory in elementary school and then it all started to go downgrade. Now, majority of us might have these problems due to an actual depression since daydreamers tend to get really depressed, but since you said you didn't have issues with it, I'm really interested in your results.
I am curious to hear how this is going to develop. I also have a goldfish memory, which is very embarassing for a 25-yr-old. I can remember all the disney songs from my childhood, but can't recall events from few seconds ago! I'm trying to exercise memory techniques lately, in order to see all events as a big puzzle and not forget them. Seems to work faster on the visual memory, probably because I'm an artist. But I bet everyday exercising will be great help in the long term. Not focusing on reality for such a long time did damage memory's ability to put everything in a rememberable order.
In any case, best of luck. I wish you'll sort this out :)
interested to hear what comes up.
