From a lonely childhood and words left unsaid
It began late at night as I lay snug in my bed
So quietly creeping, you slipped by me unseen
Or did I invite you here, you imaginary fiend
A whole new life I created just for me
A great place that was mine and just let me be
A family, many kids with Mommy and Dad
Felt more complete than what I already had
A real best friend or maybe I’ll add a few
Who loved me for me and what I loved too
To replace what was missing and give me my fill
To stay for a day, months and even years still.
A creative child full of feelings not expressed
An artistic mind, that had to be suppressed
When I was very young and then a bit older
These vivid daydreams they became bolder
With my restless thoughts and my racing mind
There were so many goals that got left behind
Alone no more, so many others found
They keep lifting me up to a higher ground
Ashamed for years of this imaginary world
That came to me when I was only just a girl
A precious gift you say, but how can that be
Was this something special that was given to me?
My long struggle has ended; I’ve given up the fight
This wounded child looked deeper and found a light.
I DEDICATE THIS POEM TO ALL OF MY SPECIAL FRIENDS HERE ON WILD MINDS, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. AND THIS IS ALSO DEDICATED TO THE NEW FRIENDS I HAVE YET TO MEET. I BELIEVE IN THE OLD IRISH PROVERB THAT THERE ARE NO STRANGERS, JUST FRIENDS YOU HAVE YET TO MEET.
