Hallow's eve. A day when the door to our world from that of the spirits is open for those who wish to enter. There's only one thing to do on this sinister, macabre and altogether supernatural day; take our kids out and bang on the doors of tired, fed-up people to ask for sweets, of course.
I didn't get up to much today. Watching the 'Telly-box' mostly. This afternoon as the sun set, and the swarms of families set out to find the most welcoming and wealthy house holds to call at, i had no sooner just gotten dressed following a shower, when i heard a knock at the door. Yes, i'll admit, i hid. My Dad was still at work and i had little desire to speak to strangers let alone gift them with candy. Besides, they contain a lot of sugar and e-numbers so in essence i was doing the right thing, yes, we shall go with that. Anyway, a few seconds later, the phone rang. I crept to the phone in the darkened next door to my bedroom when, lo and behold, the child is staring up at me as i pass the window. Sh*t. I was past the point of being able to go and answer the door now, so i waited it out. And incase you're thinking i'm a mean, grumpy guy who cares nothing for festivities, i felt bad the whole time that i sat under my quilt eating Haribo reserved for children dressed in aweful outfits. It must be rather confusing for the child, having been told their whole lives not to take sweets from strangers.
Waiting for the bus to travel to my Nan's house and see my cousins (where i'm currently staying), a group of 'Trick-or-treaters' walked by me. It was a mother with her three sons (well, i hope they were her sons), the youngest was in the quintessential costume resembling a skeleton. The other two followed less enthusiastically in hoodies. I couldn't help but think they were being carried by the Little-one's success.
Moving on from halloween, i finished reading 'The Time Machine' by H G Wells. *Spoiler* I was a little upset when his companion Weena was separated from him in a skirmish with the Morlocks and surprised, even, when you don't actually hear anything of her from then on. *Huge Spoiler* The ending of the novel, however, is a little mysterious and finishes by posing many unanswerable questions as he leaves on another anachronic adventure, never to be seen again. As i have already said, i would definately recommend this book to anyone with an interest in adventure or sci-fi stories. I have a few books which i've borrowed from my cousin: 'The Magic Christian' (Terry Southern), 'An Idiot Abroad: The Travel Diaries of Karl Pilkington' (Karl Pilkington) and '50 Psychology Ideas You Really Need to Know' (Adrian Furnham). I personally can't wait to delve into the mind of Mr Pilkington and have fairly high expectations of this book. If anyone reading this blog has read any of these or is even kind enough to suggest a book they've read, i would greatly appreciate a comment below.
Thanks again of you read this or any of my others and hope you sleep soundly on this ghoulish, winter night.
