I would be interested to know what your therapist thought.  I don't mean that to be intrusive, just that I hadn't thought to use that approach.  Once many years ago I tried to explain it to a therapist I went to and he likened it to a type of temporary fugue...childish wish fulfillment!  Did you get anywhere with her?  Please tell me that she hasn't suggested drugs as an answer.  I don't believe drugs are an answer to all a person's problems.
