The point is not to make you feel sick and diseased. Daydreaming is initially a GOOD thing. We just think more than normal. Thinking is good. The word "maladaptive" means that it interferes with your ability to live and take care of yourself. Maladaptive Daydreamers get so caught up in their imagination that it becomes an addiction. If it's under control, and you only experience the benefits, then great. You still need to know that it can get out of control, and if it does it can have negative side effects like inability to concentrate and lack of desire to interact with the real world. If you're not careful and don't actively try and maintain a good outer life, then it can slowly get worse without you realizing it. I just want you to be aware, so you can manage it and it doesn't get like that. We want to keep this a good thing in your life. Just try to maintain a strong outer life. If you start to prefer your daydream relationships to your outer ones, then hit pause and go out and improve them. Keep your outer world alluring, so you can maintain both effectively.
