Talking to my imagination

This is so embarrassing, I was in the bathroom and my mom was calling me. As I shouted back and opened the door, I heard her words, "Are you talking to yourself or are you listing to me? I saw my first hummingbird." This isn't the first, I've met countless people who noticed I do this, then much later in another situation, they'll bring it up.

Have any of you had a similar experience?
