Hello,

We are three scholars at the University of British Columbia seeking input from anyone who experiences "maladaptive daydreaming" on our recent publication. We would love to know: does our characterization of this phenomenon resonate with you? What do you agree with? What do you disagree with? What should we know for future research on this topic?

Here is a link to the article, which everyone should be able to read open-access: https://philpapers.org/archive/BURADA-10.pdf

Thank you so much!

All best wishes,

Emily Lawson

do i understand correctly that none of you 3 experienced MDD?
yk i just get this feeling of like you are a normal person trying to grasp what it might feel like (i might be wrong)

one particular thesis of yours that triggers me is "deliberate"
as i understand from reading your article (which is damn hard to read)
its like you think that its a conscientious endeavor
yeah, so people do create playlists that stimulate them to be able to find particular music quickly while they are in the "state"

i tend to differentiate thoughts on single scale (rather then your 2d)
on one end - mind wandering and mdd
i associate them with the term "default mode network"
on the other - external world perception and external agency
i associate them with the term "task positive network"

DD is "default mode network" only. thats strict. i cannot be externally-faced in any manner when DD is about to happen
DMN and TPN are actual terms you can google them

in my case all my thoughts and fantasies tend to be constrained by the things i know about the world
laws of physics and economy etc. based on these laws, and my wishes about the world, i create simulation of how i might be able to achieve this or that,
or how certain situation i like might unfold.

usually i just watch some video on yt, on those occasions im already not really awake, im immersed in the contents.
then some new info lights up my mind, i switch to some music and thats it. im in the state. and "I" never realize what has happened, only later, when i exit and check the clock. (usually makes me upset)

i will admit i havent red your acticle fully. its hard. i jumped over some pieces, and red it back and forth

so i will attempt to read [Mind-wandering as spontaneous
thought: a dynamic framework]
https://scottbarrykaufman.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Christoff-...
to understand your statements better.
btw you really should state this work [about dynamic framework of thought]
as prerequisite to understanding your work
