First let me say I have been so relieved after finding this site. It's great knowing I'm not the only one.
Has anyone noticed an over abundance of empathy in themselves? I find I have to separate myself from others emotionally to not be driven crazy with it, so much so many believe me to be cold. I think this may stem from my DDs, as I like to hop from one character to another, making it very easy to empathize and get upset. Although apparently these symptoms, coupled with my almost crippling social left-footedness, are big on the autism spectrum.
What do you guys think, and do you experience this too?
I have stopped to move turtles out of the road. I don't think folks should litter and that is my only thought when it comes to a potted plant being on the side of the road. I wouldn't stop for the sake of the plant.
Being controlled by emotions, lack of emotions, feeling too much, lack of empathy, are all aspects of different mental illnesses. I don't believe folks who identify themselves as MDD are any more empathetic than others, just due to the MD. Some are probably less empathetic than what is considered healthy. They are, after all, preoccupied with their own thoughts. Some folks who identify as MD are probably very egocentric.
Yeah, I am very empathetic and I have to make sure everyone around me is happy and comfortable otherwise I'm not. I became a vegetarian around the same time I started dd a lot, so maybe it does have something to do with MD. I suppose seeing things from the different perspectives of our characters could make us more empathetic to real people? I dunno, but maybe...
