two weeks ago i went off of my meds for depression. done this for many years. its on and off on and off . i hate mental illness. i hate them pills

Well, do they actually help you?  I tried Prozac, and all I experienced was a brief and slight elevation in mood.  If it had lasted, I would have kept taking it.  Pills don't work for me except for sleep, but that doesn't mean they won't work for others.  Do what's best for you.  

I've taken antidepressants for 11 yrs. now. I've tried going off them before but had to get back on them pretty quick. I think some people only need them temporarily especially if the depression is situational. Mine is genetic, a chemical imbalance, so I suspect I will always need them.

I go on and off my medication too. I start to feel like I don't need them or like they are making me different in a way that I don't like. So I get off them. But after a couple of months I have the painful realization that I really do need them so I get back on. It is really bad to take them on and off but I can't help it, so I understand.
