Okay, there's this little thing I do sometimes, and I'm wondering if anyone else does it.

I know I've had this strongly three times, and mildly some more. Basically, there's a character I like in series, and, though I like the character, the personality and stuff, there's... more to it. The looks. It's not like"oh, look. Hot guy." Type of thing. See, I (think I) am a straight girl, but I've only ever had this attraction to female characters. There's nothing romantic or sexual about it, and they don't really integrate with my daydreams; I don't try to find out what I can about the character or anything either, I just want to stare at them, watch them doing anything, because they're so beautiful. And that sounds kinda creepy. Sorry.

And it's kinda weird 'cause the first time I remember having this was a cartoon character.

If anyone's curious, first time was Shego (Kim Possible) then I remember Lavagirl (Sharkboy+Lavagirl) and I've also had it more mildly with Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) and now I'm getting it again with Rose Tyler (Doctor Who, which I've just started getting in to.)

I don't end up later finding the characters less attractive or anything, it's just that there's a limited number of times you can watch 4 seasons of KP, or one movie (Sb/Lg) so I sort of stop watching because the show's not as interesting, not because of losing attraction to the character or anything.

So I'm wondering, does anybody else have this sometimes? And any theories as to why?

(ps I also remember drawing Shego a bunch, pausing a scene on the computer as a guide, but her head always ended up too big for her body)

Interesting. What I really notice about American TV shows (which I favor) is how beautiful the actors are. Just compare to British, Australian or Scandinavian shows. The pool of talent is of course enormous in the US and the actors are often models with acting talent. But yes, the Doctor Who girls are also pretty, as British as the show is...

What's creepy about the need for eye candy? I love to look at beautiful women but I prefer to see attractive men too, partially because whenever there's a romantic interest, it's more believable if both the male and female are attractive, they attract more easily. Attractive men are often more succesful and confident for obvious reasons, so whenever somebody plays a succesful person, it's more believable if he looks good...

The paradox is that the believability suffers because watching this kind of show you're suddenly on pretty-people-planet. Walk around in the average shopping mall and you know that something is not right about the show...I think they're still trying to find balance. In Lost, you had Sawyer, but also Hugo (the fat guy). It's still formulaic, something for everyone...

What you could watch as an anti-dote is watch a show like The Royle Family. Or The Young Ones.

I guess the creepy sounding thing is that I want to just watch the person all the time. Oh, and the British shows have a better accent (well, depending where they're from. There's also some annoying ones) but, for me (A kiwi girl) the American accent is nothing special, 'cause 90% of the stuff on TV is American. So that balances it out I guess.

Though there's no thoughts like "I want to be her" or "I want to look like her" but I just want to stare at them...

Actually, it's weird. I'm pretty sure I'm straight, but I find very few guys more than a little attractive to me,  but I find lots of girls attractive. I don't really care what orientation I am though, that's beside the point, but yeah... It always seems to be a female.

Oh, and there was also Willa Mundae from The Finder.
