I am quite new to the site and also I didn't know anything about MD before. I have talked about it with my mom but I only told her that I couldn't focus at school at all, I'm 17, she told me to stop making excuses for being lazy. I've never failed a class I'm my life, it's just that my marks don't meet their standards. I have a decent job and I love it, they both hate it and they have make me skip work because of my marks. And well I didn't realize I dd a lot, because I thought it was something normal, now I've found out I daydream at home, at school, at work and pretty much anywhere. And I can't really control it. a few weeks ago in class I started counting how many times I caught myself dd and in the course of an hour I tried to stop myself from dd approximately 50 times. I know it might sound crazy but it's the truth. Please help.

I have the same problem. I have also tried explaining it to my parrents, but they mostly just said the same thing...that I need to stop making exuses.im just not sure how they will react. Ive spent so much time daydreaming at school that my teachers are reporting me to my parrents! I am in 7th grade and I am already failing math! Mayby you should talk to someone about it? Like a friend? I hope your parrent will understand eventually.

This has been discussed at length on the "Does anyone know?" thread.  I posted some tips there a while back.  I don't have parents to explain this to, but I have explained it to many strangers.  I'm sure it's much more difficult with family.  Perhaps you can print off one of the articles written about it and show it to them.  I did an interview for Scientific American Mind a while back, and they spent a year and a half fact-checking that article.  They definitely wouldn't have printed it if they didn't believe it were real.  Be sure to mention that real doctors have studied it and are studying it right now.  It's real.  Also mention that there are thousands of people online who say they have it.  Be prepared to explain it to them.  Remember that YOU'RE the expert.  They may be dismissive, but they don't know anything about it.  You do.
