Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
Do you guys have certain things you do before you're able to fantasize? (If that makes sense) For me it started when i was little, my mother had gotten me a cd player and an outdoor porch swing we put in our backyard. From then on i became extremely attached to both my cd player and swing. I was out there for hours a day just listening to music and swinging back and forth fantasizing, and i still currently do so for hours a day even to this day. My minimum is two hours a day of just swinging. My parents call it my Destresser. I can be out there for 6 hours or more at the time depending on my mood with very elaborate fantasies. I had just learned what MDD is and do believe i have it as i have all the symptoms, but as some say they "suffer" from it. I do not mind it. My fantasies keep me happy, calm, they just make me feel better, most of the time... Sometimes however, they can get very violent and just spark an anger in me i didn't know i even had or make me extremely depressed. If i cannot swing i get very bitter and agitated very easily. I get very anxious and twitchy. I also can fantasies during car rides, running, reading, or even simply in class just staring at my desk (My grades sure reflect that aspect of it) I find this all fascinating, i have never heard of MDD till today.
My Fantasies usually involve
-Death
-Depression
-Poverty, broken societies
-Self harm
-Mental disorders (A schitzophrenic character, a paranoid one, a suicidal one)
-Battles and fights
- Two worlds, the "real world" being able to peak and view everything in the "second world" the world with me and all my characters
-Hidden romance (characters having feelings for someone else but won't admit it or tell them)

It's common to listen to music and enact some sort of movement while daydreaming. As a child, during recess every day, I'd sit on the swings and daydream, too. Unlike some people, I have trouble daydreaming while listening to music unless my character is singing that music, but I think I'm in the minority.
I can daydream with or without music but prefer music. I find I do it most while pacing. When I am sitting I usually engage in something distracting, tv, movies, games etc.
I have been doing the swing and music thing since I was very young too! I cannot go past 2 hours though, as I become nauseated and find it difficult to walk. I don't have decent access to the swings anymore since the sudden flood of children in my neighborhood (and I am 21 so I am not going to hog the swings from five year olds), so usually I go for a brisk walk with music and get agitated if I can't. I daydream in cars, buses and subways as well. I get very upset if the car/train/bus ride is too short (I love the car ride from NY to PA or all the buses and trains from NY to NJ. I also got to ride from PA to Fl. But my music player died out long before the trip ended) At night I pace, gesture, and mumble but I much prefer swings and transportation. I find I can visualize easier that way. I tend to repeat scenes when I'm confined to pacing.
My daydreams are usually happier subject matters since I deal with some of the things in your list in life and like to get away from all that. They tend to involve romance and tight friendships
When I am pacing, I find it more difficult to daydream with music. I end up making me or my other characters sing the songs. For some reason my mind is much more free when I am moving around in public, but in cars, buses, trains and on the swings if people are too close to me I find it distracting and can't relax. I have no idea why I'm not as creative in daydreams when I have privacy.
