My daydreams aren't realistic at all (I'm literally a space alien who has a pet dragon and knows vampires and wizards), so I suppose the answer to your question is no...
Maybe you daydream the way you do because people always want what they don't have. I, for one, have such crazy daydreams simply because I know the fantastic things in them will never be real (or at least in my lifetime). If the crazy things I could do in my daydreams were possible and normal, I probably wouldn't want to do them at all. "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." (I hope this is helpful to you...)

You don't necessarily have to be through a bad moment in your life to daydream, it's not always a mechanism to escape from suffering. I think it's part of how our minds work, like if our imagination is alive and very active. Even if you daydream realistic things, I think it's because the imagination is so strong that you can't keep it in a "quiet" mode.
