Maladaptive Daydreaming: where wild minds come to rest
This is a group for people interested in applying the 12 steps to their compulsive fantasizing. I am hoping there are a few of you out there . . .

Here are the steps as I would adapt them for MD:
1. We admitted we were powerless over compulsive fantasizing and our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to God, as we understood God .
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to God, ourselves, and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Became entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character
7. Humbly asked God to remove our shortcommings
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make ammends to them.
9. Made direct ammeds to such people, wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood God, praying only of knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening, as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other compulsive fantasizees and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

I have personally tried this method , it does not work ! You will need immense will power to pray with concentration and that's exactly what maladaptive daydreaming is all about , its an addiction where you lose your control over your body and mind , then how do you expect people to pray and get rid of it . We need more of a realistic treatment that would work .

I'm so glad this is here and there are people interested. I think we could create a weekly zoom meeting with Wild Mind Accounts who are interested. I would be interested in that. I've been in a few 12 step programs, and I think it's very helpful for sharing - especially if its a very structured meeting and very open and inclusive to non-religious, 12-step skeptics, etc. If anyone is interested in organizing this with me I'd be happy to start it. I literally talked to my therapist about this last semester and was trying to apply the steps to my MD...didn't work. You really need a group. Which I agree with one commentator who pointed out that the real step work comes with working with a sponsor, so that will be a challenge. It would still be an interesting experiment to just try it. I'm someone who is always open to new strategies and potential solutions. Message me or let me know if you'd be interested in creating a weekly zoom with a structured 12 step style meeting.
I have found working the Emotions Anonymous program to be very helpful, because although I have yet to meet another maladaptive daydreamer in EA, maladaptive daydreaming is basically an emotional problem, caused by an inability to feel our emotions in the real world. i have been busy, so not as much time to daydream. ... i am maybe a little more intentional this week about not dreaming, so that's good. i really need to focus when i drive or doing things where i could hurt myself or others. im usually pretty good about this, but could always improve. ... hope everyone here on this site is doing ok.
yesterday i sprained/broke my wrist, possibly while daydreaming. i dont even remember exactly. im usually fairly careful when standing on a chair to reach or clean. but yesterday i was having negative conversations in my head while working around the house. ... it seems like its getting worse, so i need to be more pro-active in focusing. ... Basically, i thought it might help to be somewhat accountable to a group. ... Maybe post daily or weekly, whether someone sees it or not. ... i have become somewhat reclusive, even though my family is great. ... i need to become more productive. ... i am so behind on life! ... sorry for odd typing (slow with one hand). ... thats it. ... And i do need to ask God for help, even if my relationship with Him is part of my current daydreaming problem. :(
Hi. I'm a long time member of Al-anon and have only just realized that daydreaming is my addiction and need to treat it as such. Any advice? Tips? Tricks?
Hi, I am really new to this recovery for MD. I want this alternate life to stop altogether. How does this online meeting work? Would love to communicate.
So does this group have an actual online meeting? And if not, can we try to make that happen? (I've only been at physical 12-Step meetings, so I'm not sure how online ones work, but there are a lot of them.) Thanks!
Thanks for starting this group. I'm a member of Alanon Adult Children and had been hoping to find a 12 Step group especially for MD; I guess this is the best thing currently available, although I'd prefer a physical meeting! But we have to take what we can get. I know I'm powerless over my MD, and I'm hoping that working the steps will help.
