Hi everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve started MD even though I’m only in my teens. I came to the realization that my daydreaming wasn’t normal multiple times but it’s been so hard to stop the urges. I feel like everything I do from watching a TV show to getting cereal in the morning can trigger my daydreaming. Today is my first day trying to fight any urge to daydream after a relapse. MD is so scary because I feel like I’ll be sucked back into this cycle and my characters will stay with me for the rest of my life. Does anyone have any tips for the first few days? I want this to be the end.

Therapy might help.  I'm currently looking for a therapist to help me learn how to control this.  I'm 43 and have been in my head more than not for most of my life.  I think it started to become a daily thing when I was 10 years old...so it's been a long time.

With finding a therapist, interview them when you have your first session.  They'll want to know why you're there, but you should also ask them how they might be able to help you.  Write down questions you want to ask them ahead of time so you don't forget the important stuff.  Not all therapists are created equal and it's OK to "shop around" a bit.  I usually give a new therapist a few months before deciding if they'll work for me or not as sometimes they can surprise you in both positive and negative ways.

I'm proud of you for wanting to find a way to control your daydreaming.  I didn't reach that point until recently and I'm terrified of getting help for it.  Sounds silly, but it's how I feel.

Hi Daze, it helps a lot to read about it, so it gets less nebulous, and more tangible. When you know where the limits of MD are, then you can heal it much better. Have a look at * https://wildminds.ning.com/forum/topics/yes-you-can-cure-yourself-f... * which is Eretaia's blog who writes what MD actually is, and how to tackle it. The more you define the problem, the more you see that MD isn't all-powerful and all-encompassing, it's just a safety blanket your mind provided.
