Hi! I am actually the mother of a 10 year old girl who has( always in private) skipped around a room or on our trampoline, waving a stick with a ribbon on it around whilst telling herself ' secret stories ' for as long as she has been able to talk. My husband and I have at times limited the amount of time she does it for but have thought that she would grow out of it. She has had a stable childhood and no abuse .She has always been very grown up for her age and is the top of her class especially in literacy. However, she can be  obsessive and isn't the most socially adept but is getting better with us constantly telling her how to act in certain situations. I am amazed and somewhat relieved to have found your website. I have some questions though. If anyone can help please?

Should I tell her that there are others in the world/ country who also do this?

Should I take her to a psycologist? 

Should I try to stop her doing it whilst she is only 10 ? She herself has likened it to what it must be like to smoke cigarettes and not able to stop.
